Herod Cobbina is a Ghanaian politician who served as the member of parliament for the Sefwi-Akontombra Constituency from 2005 to 2017. [1] [2] [3] [4]
Cobinna was born on 1 July 1956. He hails from Akontombra a town in the Western Region of Ghana. He obtained his ordinary level ('O'-Level) certificate in 1979 from Sefwi Wiawso Secondary School. [1] [2]
Prior to entering parliament he worked as the District Storekeeper for the Cocoa Inputs Company Limited. [1] [2]
Cobbina served as the member of parliament representing the Sefwi-Akontombra Constituency from 6 January 2005 to 6 January 2017 under the membership and ticket of the National Democratic Congress. [5] He lost his primaries to Kenneth Yeboah and decided to break-free from the party and contest as an independent but he lost the seat in the 2016 general election as an independent candidate. [6] He had been in parliament for three consecutive parliamentary terms. [1] [2] He was a member of the Committee on Business,Defense and Interior. [7] [3]
Cobbina is married with three children. He identifies as a Christian and a member of the Catholic Church. [1] [2]
Sefwi-Wiawso Municipal District is one of the nine districts in Western North Region,Ghana. Originally created as an ordinary district assembly in 1988 when it was known as Sefwi-Wiawso District,until the southwest part of the district was split off to create Sefwi-Akontombra District on 29 February 2008;thus the remaining part has been retained as Sefwi-Wiawso District,which it was later elevated to municipal district assembly status in March 2012 to become Sefwi-Wiawso Municipal District. The municipality is located in the northeast part of Western North Region and has Wiawso as its capital town.
