Hexany Audio is an audio post-production studio based in the Greater Los Angeles area. It provides custom sound, original music, voice over, audio programming, and sound branding for video games, virtual reality (VR) and interactive media. [1]

History

Hexany Audio was founded in Boston in 2012 by Berklee College of Music graduates Richard Ludlow, Juan Sebastian Cortés Arango, Richard Gould, and Andy Forsberg. [2] [3] The company was initially developed while the founders were still students at Berklee. [4] [5] The company is known for sound design and music production for notable video games including John Wick: Chronicles, Star Wars: Millennium Falcon – Smugglers Run, League of Legends and Just Shapes & Beats. Notable projects of Hexany Audio include John Wick: Chronicles , [7] Star Wars: Millennium Falcon – Smugglers Run, [8] League of Legends, [9] Just Shapes & Beats, [10] Blade Runner: Revelations, [11] Splitgate: Arena Warfare, [12] VR Studios Men in Black: Galactic Getaway, [13] Tencent's Arena of Valor [14] and VRstudios' Star Trek: Dark Remnant. [15] In October 2018, the company released the soundtracks of Chance6 Studios’ horror video game COLINA: Legacy, which were composed by Matthew Carl Earl and Jason Walsh. [16]

Awards and recognition

In 2017, Hexany Audio won the Game Audio Network Guild Awards under the category Best Music in a Casual/Social Game for their work on Strike of Kings / Realm of Valor. [17] In 2018, the company received the Hollywood Music in Media Awards under the category Best Original Song/Score for a Mobile Video Game for their work on Arena of Valor [18] and in 2021, it received the same award under the category Best Song/Score for a Mobile Video Game for their work on Call of Duty: Mobile. [19]

In 2019, their work for the Star Wars: Millennium Falcon - Smuggler's Run attraction was nominated for a MPSE Golden Reel Award under the category Outstanding Achievement in Sound Design. [20]

In 2020, Hexany Audio was featured in the Global Game Music Market report, a report that provides a detailed analysis of global game music market size and competitive landscape. [21]

<i>Tetris Effect</i> 2018 puzzle video game

Tetris Effect is a block-dropping arcade-styled puzzle video game developed by Japanese studios Monstars and Resonair and published by Enhance Games. The game was released worldwide exclusively for the PlayStation 4 on November 9, 2018, and features support for the PlayStation VR. A Microsoft Windows version, with support for Oculus Rift and HTC Vive, was released on July 23, 2019. A version for the Meta Quest standalone VR headset was released on May 14, 2020. The game garnered high praise from critics and was named Game of the Year by several publications. An enhanced version, named Tetris Effect: Connected, was announced for Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and Windows 10 during Xbox Games Showcase on July 23, 2020, and was released on November 10, 2020. The expansion was made available for existing platforms in August 2021. Versions for Nintendo Switch and Amazon Luna were released in October 2021 and August 2022, respectively. A PlayStation 5 version, with support for the PlayStation VR2, was released on February 22, 2023.

Astro Bot Rescue Mission is a 2018 platform video game developed by Japan Studio's Team Asobi division and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment for PlayStation 4's PlayStation VR headset. It stars a cast of robot characters first introduced in The Playroom, where they appeared as robots that lived inside of the DualShock 4 controller. In the game, the player teams up with Captain Astro and goes on a quest to rescue his lost crew scattered across different worlds. The game received positive reviews from critics, who praised the game's use of the DualShock 4 and its varied level design.

Paula Fairfield is a three-time Emmy Award-winning Canadian sound designer and sound artist, based in Los Angeles. She is best known for her work on the series Game of Thrones. She has a total of eleven Emmy nominations, six for Game of Thrones, three for Lost, one for The River, and one for the series Lovecraft Country. In May 2021, she was awarded an honorary Doctorate of Fine Arts from her alma mater, NSCAD University. She also has 5 golden reel awards and 17 nominations for her work from the Motion Pictures Sound Editors guild.

It honors sound editors whose work has warranted merit in the field of cinema; in this case, their work in the field of animated film. It was first awarded in 1989, for films released the previous year, under the title Best Sound Editing - Animated Feature. The award has been given with its current title since 2018.
