The Hilo Stars were a minor league baseball team in the Hawaii Winter Baseball league. They were based in Hilo, Hawaii, and played their home games at Vulcan Field and Wong Stadium.

He played the first nine years of his career with the Orix BlueWave of Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB), and the next 12 years with the Seattle Mariners of Major League Baseball (MLB). Suzuki then played two and a half seasons with the New York Yankees and three with the Miami Marlins before returning to the Mariners for his final two seasons. He won two World Baseball Classic titles as part of the Japanese national team. He also became the Mariners' special assistant to the chairman in 2019. He is regarded as one of the greatest contact hitters, leadoff hitters and defensive outfielders in baseball history.

The University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo is a public university in Hilo, Hawaiʻi. It is one of ten campuses of the University of Hawaiʻi System. It was founded as Hilo Center at Lyman Hall of the Hilo Boys School in 1945 and was a branch campus of the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa. In 1970 it was reorganized by an act of the Hawaiʻi State Legislature and became a campus within the newly created University of Hawaiʻi System.

Hilo High School is a public, co-educational high school of the Hawaii State Department of Education, and serves grades nine through twelve. Established in 1906, its first class graduated in 1909. Hilo High School is near the Wailuku River in Hawaii County on the Big Island of Hawaii, United States. The campus boasts the black marble terrazzo and gray gravel sculpture Matrix by Ken Shutt in the middle of its two patios in its courtyard. The school is situated at 556 Waianuenue Avenue on across the street from Hilo Intermediate School, one of its two feeder schools, the other being Kalanianaole Intermediate School. Hilo's symbol and mascot is the Viking and its school colors are blue and gold. Hilo High School celebrated its centennial during Homecoming of 2006. Hilo High School's crosstown rivals are the Warriors of Waiakea High School.

Brian M. O'Connor is a retired Major League Baseball pitcher who played during one season at the major league level for the Pittsburgh Pirates. He was drafted by the Pirates in the 11th round of the 1995 amateur draft. O'Connor played his first professional season in 1995 with their Rookie league Gulf Coast Pirates and his last season with the Atlanta Braves' Triple-A Richmond Braves in 2006.

The 2009 NCAA Division I baseball season play of college baseball in the United States, organized by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) at the Division I level, began on February 20, 2009. The season progressed through the regular season, many conference tournaments and championship series, and concluded with the 2009 NCAA Division I baseball tournament and 2009 College World Series. Maehara Stadium is a stadium in Wailuku, Hawaii. It is primarily used for baseball, and was the home field of Na Koa Ikaika Maui from 2010 to 2013. It also hosted the Maui Stingrays of the Hawaii Winter Baseball league.

The Hawaii Stars were an independent professional baseball team based out of Hilo, Hawaii. They were charter members of the Pacific Association. They played their home games at Wong Stadium in Hilo. In 2012, they were also members of the North American League. The Stars were managed by Garry Templeton Jr. son of former Major League All-Star Garry Templeton.

Hoʻolulu Park is a 56-acre (23 ha) park and recreation center operated by the County of Hawaiʻi in Hilo, Hawaii, east of the Wailoa River State Recreation Area and downtown Hilo, and west of Hilo International Airport. The venues are named for prominent figures from the Hilo area, including Hilo High School basketball coach Ung Soy "Beans" Afook, boxer and sports promoter Richard "Pablo" Chinen, coach and complex supervisor Aunty Sally Kaleohano, swim coach Charles "Sparky" Kawamoto, youth sports organizer Walter Victor, and sports booster Dr. Francis F.C. Wong. Hoʻolulu Park also is the site of the Edith Kanakaʻole Multi-Purpose Stadium, which hosts nationally prominent events, including the Hilo Orchid Show and the Merrie Monarch Festival.

Kainoa Thomas Correa is an American professional baseball Major League Field Coordinator/Director of Defense, Baserunning, & Game Strategy for the Cleveland Guardians of Major League Baseball (MLB). He is the former bench coach/interim manager and infield/baserunning instructor for the San Francisco Giants of Major League Baseball (MLB). He played college baseball for the University of Puget Sound. He served as the interim manager for the Giants' final three games of the 2023 season, after the dismissal of manager Gabe Kapler.
