Hip Hop Gold Dust is a compilation album by American hip hop producer Prince Paul. The album consists mainly of unreleased Prince Paul tracks from various points in his career. It features songs from his time working with Stetsasonic, De La Soul, Gravediggaz, Resident Alien, and Biz Markie. The song, "Don't Be Afraid of the Dark" by Gravediggaz, only appears on promo copies of the album but was deleted from the track list on the official CD and LP release.

Paul Edward Huston, better known by his stage name Prince Paul, is an American disc jockey, record producer and recording artist from Amityville, New York. Paul began his career as a DJ for Stetsasonic. Since then he has worked on albums by Boogie Down Productions, MC Lyte, Big Daddy Kane and 3rd Bass, among others. Major recognition for Prince Paul came when he produced De La Soul's debut album 3 Feet High and Rising (1989), in which he pioneered new approaches to hip hop production, mixing and sampling, as well as by adding comedy sketches.
Marcel Theo Hall, better known by his stage name Biz Markie, is an American rapper, singer, DJ, record producer, actor, comedian, writer, television personality and spokesperson. He is best known for his 1989 single "Just a Friend", which became a top 40 hit in several countries. In 2008, "Just a Friend" made No. 100 on VH1's list of the 100 greatest hip hop songs of all time.
Stetsasonic is an American hip hop band. Formed in 1981 in Brooklyn, New York City, New York, Stetsasonic was one of the first hip hop acts to perform with a full band and use live instrumentation in their recordings, paving the way for future hip hop bands such as The Roots. The band combined beat-boxing, sampling technology, and live band performance, incorporating R&B, jazz, dancehall reggae, and rock into its sound. Stetsasonic is also considered one of the acts that pioneered jazz rap.

"Ego Trippin' " is a 1994 single by the group, De La Soul, and the second single to be released from the group's 1993 album, Buhloone Mindstate. The song were a scathing parody on gangsta rap complete with "hardcore" screaming. The video caught the attention of rappers such as Ice Cube and Tupac Shakur, the latter taking exception to the video showing a rapper splashing around in a pool similar to Shakur's own video for his song entitled "I Get Around". "Just a Friend 2002" is a R&B single by Mario. It is the first single from his first studio album Mario, which was a loose cover of Biz Markie's hit, "Just a Friend". Mario's version is quite different, as the story is changed from a man who discovers his girlfriend has been cheating on him, to a story about unrequited love. The single was released in February 2002. The single was produced by Warryn "Baby Dubb" Campbell and written by Warryn "Baby Dubb" Campbell, Harold Lilly, John Smith and Biz Markie. It outperformed Markie's 1989 version on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, peaking at #4 on August 24, 2002, while Markie's peaked at #9.

He began his career as founder and member of the hip-hop group Stetsasonic, of which Prince Paul is an original member. Throughout the years, Daddy-O has spent his time remixing and working with artists such as Freestyle Fellowship, Mary J. Blige, Queen Latifah, Third World, Sonic Youth, Barry White, Vesta Williams, Chante Moore, Levert, Keith Richards of the Rolling Stones, Living Colour, Big Daddy Kane, the B-52's, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
The Biz Never Sleeps is the second studio album by Biz Markie. It was released on October 10, 1989, on Cold Chillin'/Warner Bros. Records and was produced by Biz, his cousin Cool V and seminal producer Paul C, instead of Cold Chillin' in-house producer Marley Marl. The album proved to be a success, peaking at #66 on the Billboard 200 and #9 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums, as well as producing his most famous song and biggest hit, "Just a Friend," which made it to #9 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #5 on the Hot Rap Singles.
