Christie Dawes is an Australian Paralympic wheelchair racing athlete. She has won three medals in athletics at seven Paralympics from 1996 to 2021.
Holger Nikelis is a German table tennis player. He won a gold medal in the singles event and a bronze in the team event at the 2004 Summer Paralympics. He also competed at the 2008 Summer Olympics and the 2012 Summer Olympics. He has also won other medals and championships in disabled table tennis. He was world number one in his category in September 2013.

Maggie Aiono finished the Paralympics in 11th place. As of the conclusion of these Paralympics, Samoa has not won a Paralympic medal.

This was the island country's fourth appearance at a Summer Paralympic Games since it made its debut sixteen years prior at the 2000 Summer Paralympics. Sprinter Revelinot Raherinandrasana was the sole athlete to represent the nation in Rio de Janeiro. In his event, the men's 1500 metres T45–T46, he finished tenth and last out of all the finishing athletes with a time of 4 minutes and 38.60 seconds.
