Holly Macve is an Ireland-born musician who performs as a solo artist. She released her first album Golden Eagle on the Bella Union label in March 2017. [1] Her follow up album Not The Girl was released in May 2021. [2]
Born in Galway in western Ireland, Macve and her sister were whisked away "in the night" by her mother from their errant father, to live with her grandparents in West Yorkshire. Macve's Grandfather, Duncan Druce, was a classical composer. [3] It was her mother's record collection which inspired the young Macve – from old blues to Bob Dylan – from these early influences she went on to discover the likes of Leonard Cohen, Johnny Cash and Gillian Welch. [4]
At 18, Macve moved south to Brighton where she began performing at local venues, working in a café whilst singing on open mic nights. Bella Union boss Simon Raymonde was a customer at the café, and having watched her perform, signed her to his label where she went on to record her first solo album Golden Eagle released in March 2017. [5] The bulk of Golden Eagle was recorded in Newcastle at the home studio of producer Paul Gregory (of Bella Union label-mates Lanterns on the Lake), with extra recording in Brighton and London. [5] On its release, Macve was described by Record Collector as "an ethereal offspring of Nick Cave blessed with the stark musical backdrop of Johnny Cash's 'American' series of recordings." [6]
Macve has worked and toured with artists as John Grant, Villagers, Benjamin Clementine, Bill Ryder-Jones, [7] Fiona Brice, Tony Visconti [8] Mercury Rev and Royal Northern Sinfonia. Working with Northern Sinfonia also sparked Macve's interest in cinematic arrangements. [9] Macve has appeared at numerous music festivals including Glastonbury, End Of The Road, Latitude, and Electric Picnic. Following her appearance at South by Southwest in Austin, Texas in 2017, Macve was labelled as one of the "top 12 notable acts" by The New York Times . [10] Bob Boilen of NPR Music described Macve as "the best voice I heard at SXSW".[ citation needed ]
For the 2021 album Not The Girl, Macve co-produced tracks with band member Max Kinghorn-Mills. Not The Girl was mixed by Collin Dupuis, [9] who worked on Lana Del Rey’s Ultraviolence and whom Macve considers a significant musical influence. [9] In an interview with Rolling Stone , Del Rey was quoted as saying Macve would be the ideal person to play her in a biopic. [11]
In October 2023 Macve released "Suburban House" featuring Lana Del Rey on her own label Loving Memory Records. Describing her collaboration with Macve, Del Rey was quoted as saying: "Ever since I heard Holly’s music I knew she had one of the most beautiful singing voices in the world. Her flawless, emotional vocals have inspired me over the last six years and I love her songs, and I’m especially proud of featuring on this one."[ citation needed ] The track is taken from her forthcoming EP scheduled to be released in 2024. Bella Union is a British independent record label founded in 1997 by Simon Raymonde and Robin Guthrie of Cocteau Twins. It is now run solely by Raymonde.
"Doin' Time" is a song by American band Sublime, appearing as the closing track on their self-titled third album. The lyrics tell of a cheating girlfriend, whose infidelities and poor treatment of her lover makes him feel like he is in prison. It was released as a single on November 25, 1997; the disc contained alternate versions of the song by Wyclef Jean and the Pharcyde. Additional versions appeared on the post-Bradley Nowell compilation album Second-hand Smoke and several bootlegs, including one with Snoop Dogg.
"Blue Velvet" is a popular song written and composed in 1950 by Bernie Wayne and Lee Morris. A top 20 hit for Tony Bennett in its original 1951 version, the song has since been re-recorded many times, with a 1963 version by Bobby Vinton reaching No. 1.

The album was primarily produced by Del Rey and Jack Antonoff, with additional contributions from Zach Dawes, Andrew Watt, and longtime Del Rey collaborator Rick Nowels. Musically, Norman Fucking Rockwell! features a soft rock sound consisting of psych-rock songs and piano ballads and features references to various classic rock artists. The title of the album is a reference to painter and illustrator Norman Rockwell.

(2019), while previous collaborator Rick Nowels produced one of the album's tracks. The album features collaborations with Nikki Lane, Weyes Blood, and Zella Day.

It was released on October 22, 2021, by Interscope and Polydor Records, seven months after her previous record, Chemtrails over the Country Club. The album was produced by Del Rey, Zachary Dawes, Loren Humphrey, Mike Dean, Barrie-James O'Neill, Rick Nowels, and several others.
