Holy Mountain are a psychedelic rock band from Glasgow, Scotland, comprising Andy McGlone (guitar and vocals), Pete Flett (drums) and Allan Stewart (Idlewild/Desalvo). The band are currently signed to Chemikal Underground Records.

History

Formation

Andy McGlone and Pete Flett met in the Captains Rest in Glasgow, December 2008 and started the band as a two-piece. They were later joined by Allan Stewart in April 2010. They take their name from the 1973 film by Alejandro Jodorowsky.

Earth Measures (2008-2012)

Earth Measures was recorded in the Diving Bell Lounge, Glasgow in July 2010. The session was engineered by Marcus Mackay (Frightened Rabbit), mixed by Iain Cook (of Aereogramme, The Unwinding Hours, Chvrches), and mastered by Kenny MacLeod (Mogwai, Sons and Daughters).

Described by The List as a "cacophonous, riff-driven release imbued with savage axe-mastery and vintage spirit", [1] the album was released on 7 May 2012 through Chemikal Underground. The album was met with positive reviews; Drowned in sound stating 'there's a depth and richness in the sound that lets so many other rock records down.', [2] The Skinny describing the sound as "fuzz-faced bass-heavy ecstasy" [3] and The Line of Best Fit described it as "teetering-on-the-edge-of-insanity reckless abandon". [4] The band promoted the album with sessions with Marc Riley on BBC Radio 6 Music and Vic Galloway on BBC Radio Scotland, as well as festival appearances at Eurosonic, Bergenfest and local support slots with Shrinebuilder and The Twilight Sad. [5]

Ancient Astronauts (2013–present)

The band entered Chem 19 recording studio in April 2013 and completed recording of their second album "Ancient Astronauts" with producer Paul Savage. The album also features Graeme Smillie (Emma Pollock, Unwinding Hours) on organ and keys. The album was mixed by Savage in December. The band released a 7" single, "Luftwizard" from the album, with a cover of Black Sabbath's "War Pigs" as the B-Side.

The album was released in the UK on 7 April 2014.

Allan William Stewart is an English musician. He is the second guitarist in Idlewild, the bassist in Holy Mountain and guitarist for the band Desalvo. He grew up in Farnborough, Hampshire.

Stuart Leslie Braithwaite is a Scottish multi-instrumentalist, singer and songwriter. He is the guitarist of post rock band Mogwai, with whom he has recorded ten studio albums. He is also a member of the British alternative rock supergroup "Minor Victories."

De Rosa (band)

De Rosa are a Scottish rock band from Bellshill. It consists of Martin Henry, Chris Connick (guitar), James Woodside (bass), Neil Woodside (drums) and Andrew Bush (piano/keyboards). The band have released three studio albums—Mend, Prevention, and Weem.

Iain Cook Scottish musician

Iain Andrew Cook is a Scottish musician, composer, record producer and member of Glasgow-based electronic trio Chvrches. He played guitar for the Scottish post-rock band Aereogramme until their breakup in 2007. Cook also composes music for film and television and is a member of the rock band The Unwinding Hours.

Zoey Van Goey

Zoey Van Goey were an indie pop band from Glasgow, Scotland, made up of Matt Brennan, Michael John McCarthy, Kim Moore and Adam Scott. Brennan, McCarthy and Moore, hailing from Canada, Ireland and England respectively, formed the initial trio in Glasgow in 2006, with Scott becoming a full-fledged member in 2010. The band stopped performing in 2012.

The Phantom Band

The Phantom Band are a Scottish indie rock band based in Glasgow, consisting of Duncan Marquiss (guitar), Gerry Hart (bass), Andy Wake (keyboards), Rick Anthony, Iain Stewart (drums) and Greg Sinclair (guitars). They are often generally described as indie rock but are known to utilize a variety of genres and styles. The band's debut album Checkmate Savage was released in January 2009 and the follow up The Wants in October 2010. In June 2014, the band released their third record, Strange Friend followed by Fears Trending in January 2015.

The Unwinding Hours

The Unwinding Hours were a Scottish alternative rock band formed in 2008 by former Aereogramme members Craig B. and Iain Cook. The band released their self-titled debut album on 15 February 2010 and Afterlives in 2012, as well as several tour/live EPs.

Rick Anthony is a Scottish musician, singer and songwriter originally from Aberdeenshire and now based in Glasgow. He is the lead singer and guitarist in the alternative rock band The Phantom Band and also performs as a solo act and releases music under the pseudonym Rick Redbeard.
