The Honiara City Council is an organisation that looks after the municipal affairs of Honiara, the capital city of the Solomon Islands on Guadalcanal Honiara is divided into twelve wards, each of which elect one councillor. There are eight extra councillors. Four are appointed by the Solomon Islands Minister of Home Affairs, and members of parliament representing the city are included, along with the premier of Guadalcanal province. The assembled council selects a mayor from one of the elected twelve. [1]
The twelve electoral wards are from east to west: Panatina, Vura, Naha, Kukum, Kola'a, Mataniko, Vuhokesa, Vavaea, Cruz, Rove-Lengakiki, Mbumburu, Nggosi. [1] Each ward has a development fund assigned to the councilor to spend. Auditors check out the spending to make sure it is not used as a slush fund. [2]
Legislation that controls the function of the council includes the Honiara City Act 1999 and the Honiara City Council Election Regulations 1999, and the Local Government Act. [1]
Functions of the council include rubbish collection. [3] The council controls markets, cemeteries, litter bins, building construction, and issues license for hawkers or a business. [4]

The national capital and largest city of the Solomon Islands, Honiara, is on the island; however, in July 1983 it was designated a 22-km² separately-administered Capital Territory and is no longer considered part of the province. The population of the province is 93,613 (2009), not including the capital territory. The population of the island is 109,382 (1999). Honiara serves as the provincial capital. The climate is rainforest tropical. The estimated terrain elevation above sea level is 447 meters.

The Christchurch City Council is the local government authority for Christchurch in New Zealand. It is a territorial authority elected to represent the 394,700 people of Christchurch. Since October 2013, the Mayor of Christchurch is Lianne Dalziel, who succeeded Bob Parker. The council currently consists of 16 councillors elected from sixteen wards, and is presided over by the Mayor, who is elected at large. The number of elected members and ward boundaries changed prior during the 2016 election.

Wakefield Council, also known as Wakefield Metropolitan District Council is the local authority of the City of Wakefield in West Yorkshire, England. It is a metropolitan district council and provides a full range of local government services including Council Tax billing, libraries, social services, processing planning applications, waste collection and disposal, and it is a local education authority. Wakefield is divided into 21 wards, electing 63 councillors. A third of the council is elected for three of every four years. The council was created by the Local Government Act 1972 and replaced the Wakefield City Council of the County Borough of Wakefield and several other authorities. Since 1974 Wakefield has held borough and city status and from this time would use the full title of the authority on all publications, signage, council vehicle fleet and documents, however from around 2005, like many other local authorities doing so at the time, the authority dropped the full title for the shorter Wakefield Council.

Point Cruz is located on the Tandai Highway, and is ¼ mile north of the Solomon Islands Parliament Building. Point Cruz is in the Honiara City Council ward of Cruz, and is East of Town Ground and West of Tuvaruhu.
Rove is a suburb in Honiara located 2 kilometres (1.2 mi) west of the main center on the Tandai Highway. Rove borders the Honiara City Council ward of Nggosi and Rove-Lengakiki.
Town Ground is a suburb in Honiara, Solomon Islands, located in the main center on the Tandai Highway. Town Ground is in the Honiara City Council ward of Nggosi and Rove-Lengakiki.
Kakabona (Kakambona) is a peri-urban suburb on the fringe of Honiara, Solomon Islands and is located 4 kilometres (2.5 mi) west of the main center and west of White River on the Tandai Highway. Kakabona borders the Honiara City Council ward of Nggosi. Refugees from Bouganville settled following the conflict.
Vuhokesa is a suburb in Honiara located in the main center on the Tandai Highway and includes the City Council roundabout. Vuhokesa is in the Honiara City Council ward of Vavaea. and is East of Point Cruz and West of Lord Howe Settlement. The Vuhokesa border is the West bank of the Mataniko River which runs into Kua Bay.
