Horse Creek (Cedar Creek tributary)

Horse Creek is a stream in Barton, Cedar, Dade and Vernon counties in southwest Missouri. [1] It is a tributary of Cedar Creek.

The stream headwaters arise in southern Dade County at 37°20′14″N93°57′04″W / 37.33722°N 93.95111°W / 37.33722; -93.95111 . [1] The stream source is just east of Missouri Route 97 south of Lockwood. The stream flows northwest under Route 97 and north passing under U.S. Route 160 just west of Lockwood. It flows northwest into Barton County just east of Layneville. It continues past Newport and Milford. Past Milford the stream turns northeast and flows into the southeast corner of Vernon County and into Cedar County northwest of West Independence. It crosses under Route 97 again and under Missouri Route 32 southeast of Filley and on to its confluence with Cedar Creek in west-central Cedar County at 37°45′58″N93°53′01″W / 37.76611°N 93.88361°W / 37.76611; -93.88361 . According to tradition, Horse Creek was named from an incident when frontiersmen encountered a horse carcass along the creek's course. [3]

The stream flows east for about one mile then turns south and flows under U. S. Route 63 and into the Missouri River four miles northwest of Cedar City and across the river from Jefferson City. The Katy Trail crosses Cedar Creek just north of its confluence with the Missouri.

Turnback Creek is a stream in the Ozarks of southwest Missouri. The stream headwaters are in western Christian County just southwest of Billings. The stream flows north-northwest after passing under U.S. Route 60 and on through the extreme southwest corner of Greene County and into Lawrence County. In Lawrence County the stream flows northwest passing under Interstate 44 southwest of Halltown and into southeast Dade County. In Dade County the stream flows generally north and enters the Sac River arm of Stockton Lake at U.S. Route 160 east of Greenfield.

Ernest Township is a rural township in Dade County, in the U.S. state of Missouri. It is laid out as approximately a square, all farmland, with no organized communities currently within its boundaries and only an occasional residence. Missouri Highway 97, running south to north, runs through the township.
