Horseshoe Creek

Horseshoe Creek is a stream in Jackson and Lafayette counties in the U.S. state of Missouri. [1] It is a tributary of Sni-A-Bar Creek.

The stream headwaters arise in western Lafayette County adjacent to Missouri Route TT at 38°58′05″N94°04′57″W / 38.96806°N 94.08250°W / 38.96806; -94.08250 . The stream initially flows to the southeast then makes a broad "horseshoe turn" to continue north roughly parallel to the Lafayette-Jackson county line. The stream flows between Oak Grove and Bates City and passes under Interstate 70. The stream veers west and enters Jackson County prior to its confluence with Sni-A-Bar Creek about two miles north of I-70 at 39°02′29″N94°06′50″W / 39.04139°N 94.11389°W / 39.04139; -94.11389 . Horseshoe was so named for the fact its many meanders evokes a horseshoe shape. [3]

The stream flows south and about five miles south of its headwaters the stream becomes the boundary between Boone and Callaway counties. The stream crosses under Interstate 70 about eight miles east of Columbia and enters the Mark Twain National Forest. The stream flows south to southwest through the national forest and upon leaving the forest turns to the east and ceases to be the county line. The stream flows east for about one mile then turns south and flows under U. S. Route 63 and into the Missouri River four miles northwest of Cedar City and across the river from Jefferson City. The Katy Trail crosses Cedar Creek just north of its confluence with the Missouri.

Parched Corn Creek or Parched Corn Hollow is a stream valley in Christian and Greene counties in the Ozarks of southwest Missouri. It is a tributary of Finley Creek.

It flows to the south into Vernon County and passes just west of the community of Amos and on to its confluence with the Little Osage two miles northwest of Stotesbury at 37°59′48″N94°35′3″W.
