Hortensia Arzapalo (born 29 July 1981) is a Peruvian long-distance runner. She competed in the marathon event at the 2015 World Championships in Athletics in Beijing, China. [1]
A half marathon is a road running event of 21.0975 kilometres —half the distance of a marathon. It is common for a half marathon event to be held concurrently with a marathon or a 5K race, using almost the same course with a late start, an early finish or shortcuts. Atletismo Sudamericano, formerly CONSUDATLE, is the continental confederation governing body of athletics for national governing bodies and multi-national federations within South America. CONSUDATLE is one of six area associations of World Athletics (WA). CONSUDATLE was founded on May 24, 1918, in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Therefore, the CONSUDATLE claims to be the oldest athletics area association of the world. The founding members were Argentina, Uruguay, and Andean Chile. Successively, the other countries joined: Brazil in 1922, Ecuador and Peru in 1925, Bolivia in 1930, and Colombia in 1937. Paraguay and Venezuela followed later, and Guyana, Panama, and Suriname joined within the last decades.

She has represented her country at World Championship-level both on the roads and in cross country. Melchor also holds Peruvian records for the 5000 and 10,000 metres on the track.
