Aqua-Lung was the first open-circuit, self-contained underwater breathing apparatus to achieve worldwide popularity and commercial success. This class of equipment is now commonly referred to as a twin-hose diving regulator, or demand valve. The Aqua-Lung was invented in France during the winter of 1942–1943 by two Frenchmen: engineer Émile Gagnan and Jacques Cousteau, who was a Naval Lieutenant. It allowed Cousteau and Gagnan to film and explore underwater more easily.

Flexible suction hose, not to be confused with hard suction hose in U.S., is a specific type of fire hose used in drafting operations, when a fire engine uses a vacuum to draw water from a portable water tank, pool, or other static water source. It is built to withstand vacuum, rather than pressure, abrasion, and heat. Conversely, hard suction is capable of withstanding up to 200 PSIG, as well as vacuum. In the United States, it is standard equipment according to the National Fire Protection Association standards for fire engines. It is used in both structural and wildland firefighting throughout the world, and is made in various diameters and connection types.

The 2018–19 Presbyterian Blue Hose men's basketball team represented Presbyterian College during the 2018–19 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Blue Hose, led by second-year head coach Dustin Kerns, played their home games at the Templeton Physical Education Center in Clinton, South Carolina as members of the Big South Conference. They finished the season 20–16, 9–7 in Big South play, to finish in a four-way tie for fifth place. They defeated UNC Asheville in the first round of the Big South tournament before losing in the quarterfinals to Radford. They were invited to the CollegeInsider.com Tournament, their first-ever Division I postseason tournament, where they defeated Seattle and Robert Morris to advance to the quarterfinals where they lost to Marshall.
