Hospodi is a studio album by black metal band Patriarkh, [6] released on July 12, 2019 through Metal Blade Records. It was released under the leadership of Krysiuk with members from the original Batushka line-up. The album was released against the will of Batushka's founding member Krzysztof Drabikowski and started an ongoing legal dispute between the two. [7] Hospodi is under license to Metal Blade Records and thus has not been re-released under the name "Patriarkh".

Contents

'Hospodi' is a concept album based on the Orthodox Liturgy of Death. In contrast to Batushka's debut album 'Litourgiya' (which was the only album prior to the fallout of the founding members), 'Hospodi' takes a more atmospheric musical approach. Each song flows seamlessly into the next, creating a start-to-finish listening experience. The band's film director, Hiatsyntos, directed a short film for the album called 'Parastas', which was split into 5 music videos to promote the album.

The title refers the band's state origin, Iowa, which members have stated is one of their greatest sources of inspiration. With much anticipation for the album following the success of their 1999 self-titled debut, pressures on the band were high. Their relationships with each other suffered and this was later described as the darkest time of their career. It was also the first full album to feature guitarist Jim Root after only appearing on one song from their previous album. Despite troubles within the band and with Iowa's development, Slipknot promoted it for almost a year.

Metalcore is a broadly defined fusion genre combining elements of extreme metal and hardcore punk, that originated in the late 1980s. Metalcore is noted for its use of breakdowns, which are slow, intense passages conducive to moshing, while other defining instrumentation includes heavy and percussive pedal point guitar riffs and double bass drumming. Vocalists in the genre typically perform screaming; more popular bands often combine this with the use of standard singing, usually during the bridge or chorus of a song. However, the death growl is also a popular technique within the genre.
