HotWax are an English alternative rock trio based in Hastings, consisting of members Tallulah Sim-Savage, Lola Sam, and Alfie Sayers.
Tallulah Sim-Savage, vocalist and guitarist, met bassist Lola Sam at secondary school in Hastings when a music teacher placed them in a group together, and the pair became close friends. [1] As of 2017, they were members of a band called the Kiffs along with Honor Wilson, who would go on to be HotWax's initial drummer. [2]
Sim-Savage and Sam later met drummer Alfie Sayers at a music college in Brighton, forming the current trio in 2021. [3]
In 2020, HotWax began self-releasing singles, including "Stay Cool", "Pat the Killer Cat", "When We're Dead", and "Barbie (Not Yours)". [4]
HotWax are signed to record label Marathon Artists and publish via Transgressive Records [5] for the release of their debut EP A Thousand Times in May 2023 with its lead single "Treasure", and subsequent EP "Invite me, kindly". They had a gig supporting the Pearl Harts. [6] In spring and summer 2023, HotWax performed at a number of festivals, including the Great Escape Festival, Mad Cool, [7] Louis Tomlinson's Away From Home Festival in Italy, [8] All Points East, and Reading and Leeds Festival. [9] [10] They then opened for Royal Blood that autumn on tour in the UK and North America. [11]
Sam grew up listening to the Beatles, Amy Winehouse, and Destiny's Child, while Sim-Savage grew up listening to country [12] and Lady Gaga, before developing an interest in rock music through Blondie's Parallel Lines (1978) album. [9]
Sim-Savage and Sam took inspiration from Karen O, Starcrawler, [3] and Yeah Yeah Yeahs when formulating their vision for HotWax. Sim-Savage primarily writes the band's lyrics. [1] The trio's debut EP A Thousand Times drew comparisons to The White Stripes, Hole, and Wolf Alice. [13]
In March 2022, John Robb of Louder Than War described HotWax as "ripping up the template and stages with a thrilling deconstruction of their grunge roots into a post-punk landscape." [14] In May 2023, Ed Power of The Independent identified HotWax as part of a phenomenon of young artists reviving 1990s indie rock trends, despite being too young to remember the decade. HotWax stated these influences were framed by their parents and mentors, but that they were not defined by them. [15]
Yeah Yeah Yeahs are an American indie rock band formed in New York City in 2000. The group is composed of vocalist and pianist Karen O, guitarist and keyboardist Nick Zinner, and drummer Brian Chase. They are complemented in live performances by second guitarist David Pajo, who joined as a touring member in 2009 and replaced Imaad Wasif, who had previously held the role. According to a 2004 interview that aired during their appearance on ABC's Live from Central Park SummerStage series, the band's name was taken from modern New York City vernacular.

Hadouken! were a British band formed in London in 2006 by singer, songwriter and producer James Smith and synth player Alice Spooner along with guitarist Daniel "Pilau" Rice, bassist Christopher Purcell and drummer Nick Rice. The band took its name from the special attack of the same name from the Street Fighter video game series. It was in Leeds that Hadouken! began their own record label, Surface Noise Records.
Does It Offend You, Yeah? are a British dance-punk band from Reading, Berkshire. They played what was to be their final show on 12 December 2015 at the Electric Ballroom, Camden Town. In September 2021, they announced a new album, titled We Do Our Own Stunts.

Savages are an English rock band that formed in 2011 in London. Their debut album, Silence Yourself was released on 6 May 2013 via Matador Records. It reached number 19 in the UK Albums Chart in May 2013, and was critically acclaimed. It peaked at number 5 on the Irish and the UK Independent Albums Chart, and at number 13 on the US Billboard Independent Albums chart. The band's second album Adore Life, was released on 22 January 2016. Both albums were nominated for the Mercury Prize, in 2013 and 2016 respectively.
Wolf Alice are an English rock band from London, England. Formed in 2010 as an acoustic duo comprising singer Ellie Rowsell and guitarist Joff Oddie, Wolf Alice have also featured bassist Theo Ellis and drummer Joel Amey since 2012.
Circa Waves are an English indie rock band formed in Liverpool in 2013. The band consists of lead vocalist and guitarist Kieran Shudall, guitarist Joe Falconer, bassist Sam Rourke, and drummer Colin Jones.
Boygenius is an American indie rock supergroup consisting of American singer-songwriters Julien Baker, Phoebe Bridgers, and Lucy Dacus. They debuted with their self-titled EP in 2018, and then returned after a hiatus with their debut studio album, The Record (2023), which was both a critical and commercial success, winning the members three Grammy Awards. Labeled an "instant classic" by NME, it topped the charts in the UK, Ireland and the Netherlands, and peaked at number four on the U.S. Billboard 200. Their second EP, The Rest, was released on October 13, 2023. The group is currently on hiatus.

Holly Ffion Humberstone is an English singer-songwriter from Grantham, England. In 2021, she signed a recording contract with Interscope and Polydor Records. Her first extended play (EP) following the signings, The Walls Are Way Too Thin, was released in November 2021. Afterwards, she won the Brit Award for Rising Star at the 2022 Brit Awards. She released her debut studio album, Paint My Bedroom Black, in October 2023. Her work Haunted House was nominated for the Best Song Musically and Lyrically Ivor Novello Award.
Space Cadet is the fourth extended play (EP) by Filipino-born English singer-songwriter Beabadoobee. The EP was released on 14 October 2019 by independent record label Dirty Hit, and was supported by the singles "She Plays Bass" and "I Wish I Was Stephen Malkmus". All five tracks were executively produced by English musicians Pete Robertson and Joseph Rodgers. The EP was also written entirely by Beabadoobee and features additional guitar from Matthew Healy on the title track.
L'objectif are an English rock band from Leeds. Formed in 2017 by vocalist and guitarist Saul Kane and drummer Louis Bullock, the band performed as a duo up until 2020, when they recruited guitarist Dan Richardson and bassist Ezra Glennon. Their debut EP Have It Your Way was released on 20 July 2021, through Chess Club Records and Mirror Music Group. The EP's lead single "Drive in Mind" peaked at number one on Free40's Dutch independent music chart.
NewDad are an Irish indie rock band from Galway, formed in 2018. Their music has been compared to The Cure, Beabadoobee, and Just Mustard by NME magazine. Atwood Magazine wrote of the group: "The band oozes personality with cynical but honest lyrics, colorful visual components, and poignant messages about coping with the, albeit painful, formative experiences." The group have appeared at the Green Man Festival in Wales, the Pitchfork Music Festival in Paris, and on the Irish television program Other Voices.
Andrew Savage, or A. Savage, is an American singer, songwriter, musician, and painter, best known for his work as co-frontman for the rock band Parquet Courts.
Flo are a British girl group from London, consisting of members Jorja Douglas, Stella Quaresma, and Renée Downer. They formed in 2019 and signed with Island Records. The group gained popularity on social media with their debut single "Cardboard Box". They released their debut EP, The Lead, in 2022. They topped the BBC's Sound of 2023 poll and won the 2023 Brit Award for Rising Star.
Cool It Down is the fifth studio album by American indie rock band Yeah Yeah Yeahs, released on September 30, 2022, through Secretly Canadian. It marks the group's first album since 2013's Mosquito and their first release through Secretly Canadian. The lead single "Spitting Off the Edge of the World" featuring Perfume Genius was released on June 1, 2022. The band began a world tour in support of the record from June 2022. Their fifth track, "Burning," was used as the opening theme of the Marvel Cinematic Universe miniseries Echo.
Hot Milk is an English pop rock band based in Manchester. Formed in 2018 by singer/guitarists Hannah "Han" Mee and Jim Shaw, the group is known for their genre-blurring sound and for lyrics that often address social and political issues. Signed to the British indie label Music For Nations since 2021, they have released three EPs and released their debut studio album, A Call to the Void, on 25 August 2023. They have toured with acts including Foo Fighters and You Me at Six, appeared at Download Festival and Lollapalooza, and have received radio play from BBC Radio 1 and Kerrang! Radio. Additionally, they have been noted by Alternative Press as part of a new wave of artists in the Manchester music scene.
Cheerbleederz are a British indie rock power trio formed in London. The band consists of Kathryn Woods (guitar), Sophie MacKenzie (bass) and Phoebe Cross (drums). They all contribute vocals. They have released two EPs and one full-length album, all released by Alcopop! Records. They are sometimes referred to as a DIY supergroup due to their members having been in other bands such as Fresh, Happy Accidents, Me Rex, Finish Flag and Supermilk.
Nieve Ella Pickering is an English singer. Her 2023 release, Young & Naive/Lifetime of Wanting, charted at No. 38 on the UK Independent Album Chart. She has also supported Dylan, Inhaler, and the Courteeners, and is a member of Loud LDN.
