Hotelleriesuisse (common spelling HotellerieSuisse, actually Schweizer Hotelier-Verein, SHV; also Swiss Hotel Association) is the Employers' organization of the Swiss accommodation industry and represents the interests of accommodation establishments in Switzerland.
The association was founded on 11 February 1882 as the Schweizer Hotelier-Verein (SVH). [1]
The member companies of HotellerieSuisse account for two-thirds of Switzerland's accommodation establishments [2] and generate around three-quarters of the corresponding overnight stays. [2] As the umbrella organization of 13 regional associations, [3] HotellerieSuisse is present in all parts of the country and language regions and employs around 70 people in Bern. [2]
HotellerieSuisse supports its member companies in their business management, in ensuring the availability of qualified specialists for the industry, and in advocating for industry- and employer-friendly framework conditions at a political level.
Tourism is also one of Switzerland's five most important export industries. [4] As a representative of a sub-sector of tourism, HotellerieSuisse is a member of various umbrella organisations and maintains strategic partnerships in the tourism sector.
HotellerieSuisse is also a shareholder of the Switzerland Travel Centre AG. [6]
In 1978, the association introduced the hotel rating system in Switzerland. [7] A new rating system for awarding hotel stars has been in force in Switzerland since 1 January 2011. [8] The Swiss hotel rating system is based on a catalogue of standards drawn up by HotellerieSuisse together with European partner associations. [9] The harmonised hotel rating system is run by the Hotelstars Union, which was founded in 2009. [10] It is held under the auspices of HOTREC, the European umbrella organisation for hotels, restaurants and cafés in Europe. HotellerieSuisse is a founding member of HOTREC.
Education is a central concern of the association. HotellerieSuisse is the founder of the Thun Hotel Management School and a minority shareholder of the Swiss School of Tourism and Hospitality [11] as well as the founder of the École hôtelière de Lausanne. [12] HotellerieSuisse is also one of the supporting organisations of Hotel & Gastro formation, [13] which, as an OdA, is, among other things, an examination organiser and provider of various training courses leading to a federal diploma or a federal professional certificate. The sector records around 3,500 completed apprenticeships and around 800 higher professional education qualifications every year. [14]

A hotelship is a passenger ship which is used for a period as a hotel. A botel or boatel is a boat that serves as a hotel or hostel. Currently there are few permanent hotel ships. The word is a portmanteau of boat and hotel. Botels may range from small or larger purpose-built or converted boats or other watercraft, to converted ships. They may be permanently moored or grounded, or spend part of the year taking guests on tours. The most famous examples are the Queen Mary, in Long Beach; and the Queen Elizabeth 2, in Dubai. Both ships were originally part of Cunard line. During the 2022 World Cup, Qatar chartered three cruise ships to mitigate accommodation shortages.

From the initial purpose of informing travellers on basic facilities that can be expected, the objectives of hotel rating have expanded into a focus on the hotel experience as a whole. Today the terms 'grading', 'rating', and 'classification' are used to generally refer to the same concept, that is, to categorize hotels.

Franz Josef Bucher was Swiss business magnate, politician and patron who built his wealth in hotels and railroads. Bucher established the Bürgenstock hotel complex and was the owner and patron of Europe's largest hotel company in the 19th century. At the time of his death, his net worth was estimated at 14 million Swiss Francs. Between 1886 and 1896, Bucher served as a member of the Cantonal Council of Obwalden. He was an energetic entrepreneur who attracted anecdotes reflecting his original and direct approach.

The 2025 UEFA Women's Championship, commonly referred to as UEFA Women's Euro 2025 or simply Euro 2025, will be the 14th edition of the UEFA Women's Championship, the quadrennial international football championship organised by UEFA for the women's national teams of Europe. The tournament will be played in Switzerland from 2 to 27 July 2025. It will be the third edition since it was expanded to 16 teams. The tournament will return to its usual four-year cycle after the previous tournament was indirectly delayed to 2022 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Johannes Badrutt was a Swiss businessman, hotelier and restaurateur. He was primarily known for bringing the first English tourists to St. Moritz during the 19th century. He was the founder of Kulm Hotel St. Moritz in 1855. Badrutt's second eldest son was Caspar Badrutt. He is the patriarch of the Badrutt family.
