Club Brugge Koninklijke Voetbalvereniging, known simply as Club Brugge, is a Belgian professional football club based in Bruges, Belgium. It was founded in 1891 and its home ground is the Jan Breydel Stadium, which has a capacity of 29,062. They play in, and are the reigning champions of Belgian First Division A, the top domestic league in Belgian football.

Julien Cools is a Belgian former footballer who won the Belgian Golden Shoe in 1977 while at Club Brugge. He was discovered as a junior at SK Retie Branddonk of Antwerp and made his name with Beringen FC. He was signed by FC Bruges in 1973 where his reputation for non-stop runner in the midfield made him an international regular. Cools helped FC Bruges to win the Belgian league titles in 1975-76,76-77 and 77-78 plus the Belgian Cup in 1977. In Europe, Cools was a runner-up in the 1976 U.E.F.A.Cup Final and 1978 European Cup Final, Bruges losing both finals to Liverpool. He was rated by World Soccer Magazine as Bruges` best player in that 1978 Final. At 32 Cools left Bruges to join Beerschot where he enjoyed a new lease of life, becoming Captain of the national team. At the 1980 European Championship in Italy Cools played in all four of Belgium's games including the Final where they lost to West Germany. He was capped 35 times and scored two goals for the Belgian national team.
Erwin Vandendaele was a Belgian football player who won the Belgian Golden Shoe in 1971 while at Club Brugge. He played 32 times for the national team between 1970 and 1977, starting in a 1–2 friendly defeat to France on 15 November 1970. In the summer of 1974 Vandendaele moved to the rival Anderlecht. After his football career Vandendaele founded a tennis club in his hometown Asper. Since 2005 he has been working as a talent scout for K.A.A. Gent.
Raoul Lambert is a Belgian retired footballer who played as a striker. He finished top scorer of the Belgian First Division with 17 goals in 1972 while playing for Club Brugge. He also scored 18 goals in 33 matches with the Belgium national team between 1966 and 1977. Lambert made his international debut on 20 April 1966 in a 3–0 friendly win against France and he scored. He was in the team for the 1970 FIFA World Cup and the Euro 72. Throughout Raoul's career he stayed at Club Brugge, scoring a total of 270 goals in 458 matches in all competitions.

The 1976 UEFA Cup Final were association football matches played over two-legs between Liverpool of England and Club Brugge of Belgium on 28 April 1976 at Anfield, Liverpool and on 19 May 1976 at the Olympiastadion, Bruges. It was the final of the 1975–76 season of Europe's secondary cup competition, the UEFA Cup. Liverpool were appearing in their second final; they had won the competition in 1973. Brugge were appearing in their first European final and were the first Belgian team to reach the final of a European competition.

Royal Sporting Club Anderlecht, usually known as Anderlecht or RSCA, is a Belgian professional football club based in Anderlecht, Brussels Capital-Region. The Belgium national football team ended their UEFA Euro 1976 qualifying campaign with a defeat against Netherlands in the second round, after they finished first of their group in the first round. The Belgian Women's First Division was won by Standard Fémina de Liège for the second time. For the first time, the Belgian Golden Shoe was awarded to a stranger, Dutch international player Johan Boskamp.
