Hui Chiu-yin BBS (Chinese: 許招賢), also known as John Hui, is the director and general manager of New World First Ferry in Hong Kong after his retirement from the post of Chief Superintendent of Marine Regional in Hong Kong Police Force in 1996. He had been the Chief Commission of The Scout Association of Hong Kong from 1997 to 2003.

Bronze Bauhinia Star

The Bronze Bauhinia Star is the lowest rank in Order of the Bauhinia Star in Hong Kong, created in 1997 to replace the British honours system of the Order of the British Empire after the transfer of sovereignty to People's Republic of China and the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR).

Scout

Hui was awarded the Queen's Scout in 1960 when he was in the 7th Hong Kong Group of Hong Kong Scout Association and became a scout leader later. He severed in the Island North District, Island Region, the Headquarters and Asia-Pacific Region of the World Organization of the Scout Movement.

Queens Scout

A Queen's Scout is a Scout who has attained the Queen's Scout Award. The Queen's Scout Award is the highest youth award achievable in the Scouting movement in the Commonwealth realms, including the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, where Scouts operate under the patronage of Queen Elizabeth II. Whether the award recipient is a Queen's or King's Scout depends on who is the current Monarch of the Commonwealth realms.

World Organization of the Scout Movement international Scouting organization

The World Organization of the Scout Movement is the largest international Scouting organization. WOSM has 170 members. These members are recognized national Scout organizations, which collectively have over 50 million participants. WOSM was established in 1922, and has its operational headquarters at Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and its legal seat in Geneva, Switzerland. It is the counterpart of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS).

He succeeded Chau Cham-son to be the Chief Commission from January 1, 1997. He successfully met the target to increase the number of Scouts to 83,000 in 2002. There are several major events during his commissionership, namely 19th Asia-Pacific Regional Scout Conference in 1998, The Scout Association of Hong Kong Millennium Jamboree from 1999 to 2000, 45th Baden-Powell World Fellowship Event in 2002 and The Scout Association of Hong Kong 90th Anniversary Jamboree in 2003. A new region, New Territories East Region is spin off from New Territories Region in 2000. His appointment ended on December 31, 2003 and was succeeded by Pau Shiu-hung.

He was a member of the Regional Scout Committee of Asia Pacific Region from 2001 to 2007. [1]

He is now the Vice chairperson of the APR Scout Financial Resource Sub-committee. [2]

New World First Ferry

After his retirement from Hong Kong Police Force, he was invited to join New World First Ferry in 1996 as he is familiar with the matters of Outlying Island. He instituted a multi-million (Hong Kong) dollar reform of the ferry, including the replacement of twelve hovercrafts to increase the navigation stability. [3]

In Hong Kong, the Outlying Islands are the groups of islands that surround Hong Kong Island as well as Kowloon and the New Territories on the mainland. There are 263 islands in Hong Kong, the vast majority of which are located within the New Territories and significant numbers of them are located in Islands District in the south and southwest, Sai Kung District in the southeast and Tai Po District and North District in the northeast. The term outlying is not strictly defined and in some cases islands very close to Hong Kong Island and mainland China are not included.

A hovercraft, also known as an air-cushion vehicle or ACV, is an amphibious craft capable of travelling over land, water, mud, ice, and other surfaces.

He became increasingly media exposure following the widely reported ferry accident which occurred on May 12, 2006. [4] [5]

Award

He received a Bronze Bauhinia Star from Hong Kong Government in 2003.

Scout Association of Japan The Scouting organization in Japan

The Scout Association of Japan is the major Scouting organization of Japan. Starting with boys only, the organization was known as Boy Scouts of Japan from 1922 to 1971, and as Boy Scouts of Nippon from 1971 to 1995, when it became coeducational in all sections, leading to neutral naming. Scouting activity endured a heavy setback during World War II, but slowly recovered and membership at the end of May 2017 was 99,779.

Asia-Pacific Scout Region (World Organization of the Scout Movement)

The Asia-Pacific Scout Region is the divisional office of the World Scout Bureau of the World Organization of the Scout Movement, headquartered in Makati City, Philippines, with satellite offices in Australia and Japan. The Asia-Pacific Region services Scouting in the land area of Asia south of Siberia and east of Central Asia, and the bulk of the Pacific Basin, with the exception of the Federated States of Micronesia, the Marshall Islands and Palau, which are under the Interamerican Region by way of the Aloha Council of the Boy Scouts of America.

Eurasian Scout Region (World Organization of the Scout Movement)

The Eurasian Scout Region is the divisional office of the World Scout Bureau of the World Organization of the Scout Movement, headquartered in Kiev, formerly located at Gurzuf near Yalta-Krasnokamianka, Ukraine, with a branch office in Moscow. All the formerly communist states of Central and Eastern Europe, Central Asia and the Soviet Union have developed or are developing Scouting in the wake of the renaissance in the region. These include most of the successor states to the Soviet Union, in the Commonwealth of Independent States. The 1996/99 Triennial Report of the World Scout Committee/World Organization of the Scout Movement shows that WOSM is aggressively pursuing the organization of Scouting activities in the countries of the former Soviet Union, according to its own vision.

Bhutan Scouts Association

Scouting was introduced in Bhutan in 1970. In July 1999, the Bhutan Scout Tshogpa, the coeducational Bhutan Scouts Association, was welcomed as a member of the World Organization of the Scout Movement at the 35th World Scout Conference in Durban, South Africa. Membership stood at 18,170 as of 2011.

Vietnamese Scout Association

The Vietnamese Scout Association is a youth organization that was established in Vietnam and active between 1930 and 1975. The association was recognized by the World Organization of the Scout Movement from 1957 to 1975.

Sri Lanka Scout Association

The Sri Lanka Scout Association, is a Scouting organization in Sri Lanka operated by the Ceylon Scout Council. The Ceylon Scout Council is a corporation formed by Act No 13 of 1957. The association became a member of the World Organization of the Scout Movement in 1953. The coeducational Sri Lanka Scout Association has 33,709 members as of 2014. in 2016 the year that the National Organization reached 104 years the Scouting Population in Sri Lanka had increased to 55,078 the growth taking place against the year 2015 was 29% which was a great achievement by the SLSA.

Pau Shiu-hung Hong Kong scout leader

Pau Shiu-hung, SBS, is the former chief commissioner of The Scout Association of Hong Kong, appointed on 1 January 2004 by the then-Chief Executive of Hong Kong and Chief Scout of Hong Kong Tung Chee-hwa.

Herman Hui former chairman of the World Scout Committee

Simon Hang-bock Rhee of South Korea, is the former Chairman of the World Scout Committee, the main executive body of the World Organization of the Scout Movement, and Chairman of its Management Subcommittee. He was first elected as a member and Vice-Chairman of the Committee in Seoul, Korea in 2008, and elected as Chairman at the 39th World Scout Conference in Brazil in 2011 for a three-year term.

Eric Khoo Heng-Pheng Malaysian world scout committee member

Eric Khoo Heng-Pheng was one of 12 elected volunteer members of the World Scout Committee, the main executive body of the World Organization of the Scout Movement, and Chairman of its Asia Pacific Regional Scout Committee, elected in 2001. He was elected at the 38th World Scout Conference in South Korea for a six-year term.

Chao Shou-po

Chao Shou-po is a Taiwanese politician, educator, civic activist and lawyer and a prominent leader in the World Scout Movement. He has served as a Presidium Member of the Central Advisory Committee of the Kuomintang, and has taught law at several Taiwanese universities. Chao was the President of the Asia-Pacific Regional Scout Foundation Management Committee and the Chairman of the Foundation of the Scouts of China (Taiwan). He has held many government posts including Labor Minister, Secretary-General of the Cabinet, Minister without Portfolio and Governor of the Province of Taiwan. Chao served the Ma Ying-jeou administration as senior adviser, and from 2005 to 2012 was commissioner of the Chinese Professional Baseball League.

José Plaridel A. Silvestre was a writer and a senior official of the Boy Scouts of the Philippines, who served as the Asia-Pacific Regional Commissioner of the World Scout Bureau.

Janaprith Fernando International Commissioner of the Sri Lanka Scout Association

Janaprith Salinda Fernando of Colombo, Sri Lanka, the Colombo Law Society President, serves as the International Commissioner of the Sri Lanka Scout Association and an elected volunteer member of the Asia-Pacific Regional Scout Committee of the World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM) from 2012 to 2018.He is currently serving in the World Scout Committee, the World Organisation of the Scout Movement's highest governing body. Fernando was elected to this body in August 2017 by the 41st World Scout Conference, held in Baku, Azerbaijan.

The Asia-Pacific Scout Region of the World Organization of the Scout Movement has run or sponsored region-wide Asia-Pacific Scout Jamborees in its member countries, originally known as Pan-Pacific Jamborees.
