Hungry Lion is a South African fast food restaurant franchise [1] established in 1997. Since its founding, the company has expanded its operations to several countries in Southern Africa, including South Africa, Zambia, Namibia, Botswana, Eswatini, and Angola. [2]

History

Hungry Lion opened its first restaurant in 1997 at Eikestad Mall in Stellenbosch, South Africa. Following their initial success, the company began its expansion and proceeded to open four additional locations within the same year, including two in Zambia and one in South Africa's Eastern Cape region. [3]

In the year that followed, the company opened its first store in Namibia, followed by expansion into Eswatini (formerly Swaziland) and Botswana by 1999. The company further expanded into Angola in 2010. By 2023, Hungry Lion had opened its 300th store and employed approximately 6,500 people across South Africa, Eswatini, Botswana, Namibia, Zambia, and Angola. [4]
