Huron Valley Schools is a school district located in Oakland County, Michigan which serves the communities of Commerce Township, Highland Township, Milford, and White Lake.[ citation needed ] The headquarters are in Highland Township. [2] [3]

The district is made up of fifteen schools, including three high schools, three middle schools, and nine elementary schools.

The Huron Valley School District is known throughout Michigan for several things. It has a track and field team that has been the best in the state two years in a row. The district also has been ranked highly in the state for its academics. Lakeland High School has been named to Newsweek Magazine's Best High Schools in the United States in both 2009 and 2010. The district's HOT Robotics FIRST team has also been very successful in competition, as well as its high school DECA chapters. Its Future Problem Solving Program is also very successful. In 05–06 season they won 5 out of the 10 state trophies for the divisions they competed in with one team going on to the Internationals in Colorado. The Kurtz Elementary Destination ImagiNation team has participated in the global competition in Knoxville Tennessee in 2009 and 2010. It is also known for its International Baccalaureate program through the International Academy West.

Milford High School, a public high school in the Huron Valley School District serving students in ninth through twelfth grades, is located in Highland Township in Oakland County, Michigan, near Highland. The school was founded in 1861. After over a century in Milford, the school moved to its present location in Highland Township in 1956. The new high school would survive the 1976 opening of Lakeland High School and has been renovated and expanded several times since. The athletic teams were originally called the Trojans when the school was located in downtown Milford, Michigan. Later the teams were renamed "the Redskins". The mascot was later changed to the Mavericks during the 2002–2003 school year which in turn meant the last graduating class for the Redskins was in 2005. The new athletic team name—the Mavericks—was adopted after a school-wide vote.

Lakeland High School (LHS), commonly referred to as White Lake Lakeland or Lakeland, is a public high school located in White Lake, Michigan. As of 2021, the current Interim principal is Dr. Brigitte Knudson. Lakeland opened in 1975, and is in the Huron Valley School District.

Michigan's 11th congressional district is a United States congressional district north of Detroit, comprising most of urbanized central Oakland County. Until 1993, the district covered the state's Upper Peninsula and the northernmost portion of the Lower Peninsula. In redistricting that year, it was shifted to the outer Detroit area. Oakland Community College (OCC) is a public community college with five campuses in Oakland County, Michigan. Established in 1964, OCC is the largest community college in Michigan, with the state's third-largest undergraduate enrollment. Enrollment at the college for the 2016-2017 school year was 29,560. Oakland Community College has been accredited by the Higher Learning Commission since 1971, and has a Carnegie Classification of Associate's Colleges: High Transfer-High Nontraditional. The college offers 57 Associate degrees and 41 different programs.
