Hussain Haidry is an Indian spoken word poet, writer and lyricist. He gained prominence for his spoken word poem titled, "Hindustani Musalmaan". [1] [2] He has written lyrics for the Bollywood films Gurgaon, Qarib Qarib Single, Mukkabaaz and Taish.

Early life

Hussain Haidry is a Dawoodi Bohra, [3] and was born in Indore where he attended Shri Satya Sai Vidhya Vihar school which imparted a secular way of life to him and went on to become a chartered accountant. He later obtained a PGDM from the Indian Institute of Management Indore and worked as head of finance at a healthcare company in Kolkata. However, in December 2015 he left his job and moved to Mumbai to become a full-time lyricist and screenwriter. [4]

Career

After leaving his job in Kolkata, Hussain started his career by performing at spoken word poetry forums in Mumbai such as Kommune, The Poetry Club, Prithvi Caferati and Words Tell Stories. However, he first gained prominence when his poem 'Hindustani Musalmaan' went viral on social media. [5] He was subsequently invited on the NDTV show The Buck Stops Here. [6] He also appeared in an interview with Ravish Kumar on the same channel's Prime Time for his poem.[ citation needed ]

Hussain's first film as a lyricist was Qarib Qarib Single, for which he wrote two songs. [7] The first released film featuring him as a lyricist, however, was Gurgaon. He wrote two songs for it, Tamasha and Aiyyash Chor, as solo pieces and Udi in collaboration with Varun Grover.[ citation needed ] He also wrote the lyrics for the film Mukkabaaz which premiered at the Mumbai Film Festival in 2017. He wrote seven out of ten songs in the film, which were composed by Rachita Arora. [8] Two of his songs, Bahut Hua Sammaan and Chhipkali, were much appreciated for their political tone.[ citation needed ]

He has also written the title song of the Amazon web series, Chacha Vidhayak Hain Humare, composed by Vishal Dadlani.[ citation needed ] His latest work as a lyricist in the album of the second season of the web series TVF Tripling has also been appreciated, especially the song "Ishq Ka Haafiz".[ citation needed ]

As a screenwriter, he has co-written the story, screenplay, and dialogue for the Amazon Web Series, Laakhon Mein Ek (Season 2) along with Biswa Kalyan Rath and Abhishek Sengupta. It is a show about how a young doctor gets embroiled in the system of public healthcare in India, and it was well-received in several reviews [9] .

He has also co-written the short film titled Madhyantar, along with Abhishek Chaubey in the Netflix short film anthology, Ankahi Kahaniyan. In several reviews, Madhyantar stood out as the best short film in the anthology. [10]

He has also written dialogues for Aparna Sen's award winning film The Rapist . [11]

He created the 2017 Amazon Prime Video's series Laakhon Mein Ek. On 9 December 2020, Rath married actress Sulagna Panigrahi.

Mukkabaaz, released internationally as The Brawler, is a 2017 Indian Hindi-language sports drama film co-written, co-produced and directed by Anurag Kashyap. Jointly produced by Aanand L. Rai's Colour Yellow Productions and Phantom Films, the film stars Vineet Kumar Singh, debutant Zoya Hussain, Ravi Kishan and Jimmy Shergill in the lead roles. It follows Shravan Kumar (Singh), an aspiring boxer, who falls in love with the niece of the boxing federation head, Bhagwan Das Mishra (Shergill). Qarib Qarib Singlle is a 2017 Indian Hindi-language romantic comedy film co-written and directed by Tanuja Chandra and produced by Zee Studios, JAR Pictures and Sutapa Sikdar. The film stars Irrfan Khan and debuting Malayalam actress Parvathy Thiruvothu in the lead roles and had a worldwide release on 10 November 2017.

<i>Laakhon Mein Ek</i>

Laakhon Mein Ek is an Indian streaming television series created by Biswa Kalyan Rath, produced by OML Production. It is an Amazon Prime Video original series. Season 1 premiered on October 13, 2017 premise of the series revolved around the struggles of Aakash, a teenage student from Raipur who is sent to a coaching centre Genius Infinity in Visakhapatnam for preparation of IIT entrance exam. The Season 2 premiered on April 12, 2019 and was about Dr. Shreya and her fight with government for healthcare in Sitlapur Village.

Zoya Hussain is an Indian actress, writer and director who predominantly appears in Hindi films. She got recognition for her role in Mukkabaaz, directed by Anurag Kashyap.

<i>Bob Biswas</i> 2020 crime thriller film by Diya Annapurna Ghosh

Bob Biswas is a 2021 Indian Hindi-language crime thriller film directed by debutante Diya Annapurna Ghosh. A spin-off to the 2012 thriller Kahaani, the film stars Abhishek Bachchan as the titular character. It premiered on ZEE5 on 3 December 2021.

P. K. Mishra was an Indian Hindustani poet and lyricist. He penned numerous hit songs such as Dil Hai Chhota Sa, Jaan Se Pyaara Hai Hindustan Hamara etc. He has written 316 songs in 61 Hindi films.
