Hålisstonga Peak ( 72°2′S8°57′E / 72.033°S 8.950°E / -72.033; 8.950 Coordinates: 72°2′S8°57′E / 72.033°S 8.950°E / -72.033; 8.950 ) is a peak, 2,780 metres (9,120 ft) high, marking the south end of the Kurze Mountains in Queen Maud Land, Antarctica. It was mapped and named by Norwegian cartographers from surveys and air photos by the Sixth Norwegian Antarctic Expedition (1956–60). [1]

Kurze Mountains

The Kurze Mountains are a range of mainly bare rock peaks, ridges and mountains about 20 nautical miles (40 km) long and 6 nautical miles (11 km) wide in the Orvin Mountains of Queen Maud Land, Antarctica. The feature stands between the Drygalski Mountains on the west and the Gagarin Mountains and Conrad Mountains on the east.

Queen Maud Land Norways territorial claim in Antarctica

Queen Maud Land is a c. 2.7 million square kilometre (1.04 million sq mi) region of Antarctica claimed as a dependent territory by Norway. The territory lies between 20° west and 45° east, between the claimed British Antarctic Territory to the west and the similarly claimed Australian Antarctic Territory to the east. On most maps there had been an unclaimed area between Queen Maud Land's borders of 1939 and the South Pole until 12 June 2015 when Norway formally annexed that area. Positioned in East Antarctica, the territory comprises about one-fifth of the total area of Antarctica. The claim is named after the Norwegian queen Maud of Wales (1869–1938).

It was photographed from the air by the Third German Antarctic Expedition (1938–39). It was mapped by Norwegian cartographers from surveys and air photos by the Norwegian–British–Swedish Antarctic Expedition (1949–1952), led by John Schjelderup Giæver, and from air photos by the Norwegian expedition (1958–59) and named Isingbreen.

Jutulhogget, also known as Jutulhogget Peak, is a high peak in the eastern ridge of Jutulsessen Mountain, in the Gjelsvik Mountains of Queen Maud Land. It was photographed from the air by the Third German Antarctic Expedition (1938–39). It was mapped by Norwegian cartographers from surveys and air photos by the Norwegian–British–Swedish Antarctic Expedition (1958–59) and named after Jutulhogget, Norway's largest canyon.

Dusky Ledge is an area of relatively level exposed rock at about 1,100 metres (3,600 ft) that forms the northern part of Dusky Ridge in the Britannia Range, Antarctica. It was named by the Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names in association with Dusky Ridge.

Isingsalen Saddle is an ice saddle between Isingen Mountain and Salknappen Peak in the Sverdrup Mountains of Queen Maud Land, Antarctica. It was photographed from the air by the Third German Antarctic Expedition (1938–39). It was mapped by Norwegian cartographers from surveys and air photos by the Norwegian–British–Swedish Antarctic Expedition (1949–52) and from air photos by the Norwegian expedition (1958–59) and named Isingsalen.

Flårjuven Bluff is a flat-topped, largely ice-free bluff about 1 nautical mile (2 km) north of Storkletten Peak, on the Ahlmann Ridge in Queen Maud Land, Antarctica. It was mapped by Norwegian cartographers from surveys and air photos by the Norwegian–British–Swedish Antarctic Expedition (1949–52) and named Flårjuven. Aurnupen Peak lies 1 mile north.

Hålisen Glacier is a cirque glacier between Halisrimen Peak and Halisstonga Peak in the Kurze Mountains of Queen Maud Land, Antarctica. It was mapped by Norwegian cartographers from surveys and air photos by the Sixth Norwegian Antarctic Expedition (1956–60) and named Hålisen.

Hålisrimen Peak is a peak, 2,655 metres (8,710 ft) high, rising 2 nautical miles (4 km) northwest of Halisstonga Peak in the Kurze Mountains of Queen Maud Land, Antarctica. It was mapped by Norwegian cartographers from surveys and air photos by the Sixth Norwegian Antarctic Expedition (1956–60) and named Hålisrimen.

Mount Harrington is one of the highest peaks in the east end of the Victory Mountains, Victoria Land, Antarctica, rising to 2,610 metres (8,560 ft) on the west side of Whitehall Glacier and 5 nautical miles (9 km) southwest of Mount Northampton. It was named in 1960 by The New Zealand Antarctic Place-Names Committee after geologist Hilary J. Harrington, who led the New Zealand Geological Survey Antarctic Expedition (NZGSAE) to this region, 1957–58, and also led the NZGSAE in the McMurdo Sound region, 1958–59. Later, he was a United States Antarctic Research Program investigator in the McMurdo Sound region, 1968–69.

Klakknabben Peak is a low isolated peak 2 nautical miles (4 km) northeast of Gavlpiggen Peak, just north of the Kirwan Escarpment in Queen Maud Land, Antarctica. It was mapped by Norwegian cartographers from surveys and air photos by Norwegian–British–Swedish Antarctic Expedition (1949–52) and from additional air photos (1958–59), and named Klakknabben.

Salknappen Peak is a subsidiary peak on the north side of Isingen Mountain, in the Sverdrup Mountains, Queen Maud Land. Photographed from the air by the German Antarctic Expedition (1938–39). Kamskaya Peak is, at 2,690 metres (8,830 ft), the highest peak of Dekefjellet Mountain in the Weyprecht Mountains of Queen Maud Land, Antarctica. It was discovered and plotted from air photos by the Third German Antarctic Expedition, 1938–39, and was mapped from air photos and surveys by the Sixth Norwegian Antarctic Expedition, 1956–60. it was remapped by the Soviet Antarctic Expedition, 1960–61, and possibly named after the Kama River in Russia.

The Luncke Range is a range of peaks rising to 3,020 metres (9,900 ft), extending in a north–south direction for 10 nautical miles (19 km) between Jennings Glacier and Gjel Glacier in the Sør Rondane Mountains of Antarctica. It was mapped by Norwegian cartographers from air photos taken by U.S. Navy Operation Highjump, 1946–47, and named after Bernhard Luncke, a Norwegian cartographer who plotted the maps in H.E. Hansen's Atlas of Parts of the Antarctic Coastal Lands, 1946, and a revision covering the Sør Rondane Mountains, 1957.

Lemaire Island

Lemaire Island is an island 4.5 nautical miles (8 km) long and 1.5 nautical miles (3 km) wide, lying 1 nautical mile (2 km) west of Duthiers Point off the west coast of Graham Land, Antarctica. It was discovered by the Belgian Antarctic Expedition, 1897–99, under Adrien de Gerlache, who named it for Charles Antoine Lemaire. The island is bordered by the Aguirre Passage which separates it from the Danco Coast.
