IBM Lotus Quickr is social team collaboration software, used by teams of people to share content. Lotus Quickr works inside and outside firewalls.

Lotus Quickr can be described as three things:

  1. Content stores or repositories – where you store your personal and team content
  2. Team Collaboration – that let you store, organize, access, and share content and team projects
  3. Connectors – that provide the end user interface to Lotus Quickr content

Lotus Quickr has six main components:

Through entitlement options with IBM Lotus Connections, Lotus Quickr users can also access Lotus Connections Wikis and Files, at no additional charge. [6]

At Lotusphere 2010, IBM previewed the next release of Lotus Quickr. Future plans include an easier to use Lotus Quickr library, simplified version control, and a redesigned discussion forum, and support for Content Management Interoperability Services (CMIS). [7] Announcements at Lotusphere 2010 also included a new Lotus Quickr client for Blackberry. [8]

Content Management Interoperability Services (CMIS) is an open standard that allows different content management systems to inter-operate over the Internet. Specifically, CMIS defines an abstraction layer for controlling diverse document management systems and repositories using web protocols.

Product enhancements

Lotus Quickr connectors are like mini-applications or plug-ins that are snapped into desktop applications. The connectors offer the following features and benefits: People can continue to work in their familiar desktop applications. The connectors enable the easy movement of content from Lotus Notes, Lotus Sametime, Windows Explorer, Microsoft Office or Lotus Symphony into Quickr.

IBM Lotus Symphony office suite for Windows, Macintosh and Linux

IBM Lotus Symphony was a proprietary software suite of applications for creating, editing, and sharing text, spreadsheet, presentations, and other documents and browsing the World Wide Web. It was first distributed as commercial proprietary software, then as freeware, before IBM contributed the suite to the Apache Software Foundation in 2014 for inclusion in the free and open-source Apache OpenOffice software suite.

The software offers scalable content repositories, content management and team services such as wikis and team blogs.

A wiki is a website on which users collaboratively modify content and structure directly from the web browser. In a typical wiki, text is written using a simplified markup language and often edited with the help of a rich-text editor.

A blog is a discussion or informational website published on the World Wide Web consisting of discrete, often informal diary-style text entries (posts). Posts are typically displayed in reverse chronological order, so that the most recent post appears first, at the top of the web page. Until 2009, blogs were usually the work of a single individual, occasionally of a small group, and often covered a single subject or topic. In the 2010s, "multi-author blogs" (MABs) emerged, featuring the writing of multiple authors and sometimes professionally edited. MABs from newspapers, other media outlets, universities, think tanks, advocacy groups, and similar institutions account for an increasing quantity of blog traffic. The rise of Twitter and other "microblogging" systems helps integrate MABs and single-author blogs into the news media. Blog can also be used as a verb, meaning to maintain or add content to a blog.

The Lotus Quickr content services include Web services and REST style services for accessing content, allowing developers to build their own extensions and connectors to Lotus Quickr. Initial support for the NSF and JCR backends was announced with future support coming for IBM DB2 Content Manager and IBM FileNet P8.

Content Repository API for Java (JCR) is a specification for a Java platform application programming interface (API) to access content repositories in a uniform manner. The content repositories are used in content management systems to keep the content data and also the metadata used in content management systems (CMS) such as versioning metadata. The specification was developed under the Java Community Process as JSR-170, and as JSR-283. The main Java package is javax.jcr.

FileNet, a company acquired by IBM, developed software to help enterprises manage their content and business processes. The FileNet P8 platform, their flagship system, is a framework for developing custom enterprise systems, offering much functionality out of the box and capable of being customized to manage a specific business process.

Marketed as ProjExec for Quickr, the solution offers project teams a robust alternative to Microsoft Project and SharePoint. IBM Notes and IBM Domino are the client and server, respectively, of a collaborative client-server software platform sold by IBM.

IBM Sametime is a client–server application and middleware platform that provides real-time, unified communications and collaboration for enterprises. Those capabilities include presence information, enterprise instant messaging, web conferencing, community collaboration, and telephony capabilities and integration. It is sold by the Lotus Software division of IBM.

Enterprise content management (ECM) extends the concept of content management by adding a time line for each content item and possibly enforcing processes for the creation, approval and distribution of them.
