The ICT Association of Suriname (Dutch: ICT Associatie van Suriname) is a Surinamese trade association for companies whose core business is related to Information technology and computing. Members are required to be registered with the Suriname Chamber of Commerce and Factories.

The association was founded on 20 January 2011 [1] by five companies. [2] It grew to 49 members by 2016, [3] and to 60 members by 2021. [4]

In addition to representing its members, the ICT-AS also organizes public events to promote computer science education. In cooperation with the ITU and the Telecommunications Authority of Suriname, it has held an annual Girls in ICT Day in Paramaribo and similar events in other parts of Suriname. [5]

In June 2013, together with the Suriname Association of IT Professionals (SVI), the ICT-AS organized the first international IT Summit in Paramaribo. [6] The IT Summit, with participants from the Netherlands, the United States and the Caribbean, was repeated in 2014, 2015 and 2016. The conferences addressed industry developments, trends, and opportunities. [7] [8] [9] Datasur launched the first cloud hosting service based in Suriname at the 2014 summit. [10]

In January 2020, a new board of directors was elected, with Anuskha Sonai as the chair. The new board plans to work toward a digital economy for the country to increase opportunities for technology entrepreneurship. [11]

Meerzorg is a town and resort (municipality) in Suriname, located on the eastern bank of the Suriname River, directly opposite the capital Paramaribo. Its population at the 2012 census was 12,405. Since 2000 it has been connected to Paramaribo by the Jules Wijdenbosch Bridge, named after the former President Jules Wijdenbosch.

Centrum is a resort in Suriname, located in the Paramaribo District. Its population at the 2012 census was 20,631. The historical centre of Paramaribo is located within the resort. The city centre is mainly in original condition, contains 291 listed monuments, and has of 2002 been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Jennifer Geerlings-Simons is a Surinamese politician. On 30 June 2010, she was elected as Chairperson of the National Assembly of Suriname with 26 out of 50 votes. Simons is the second female chairman of the Surinamese Parliament. She was re-elected on 30 June 2015. In 2024, she became the leader of the National Democratic Party.

Jules Sedney was a Surinamese politician, and Prime Minister of Suriname from 20 November 1969 to 24 December 1973. In 1980, he became governor of the Central Bank of Suriname, but had to flee the country in 1983 after a dispute with Dési Bouterse. Sedney returned to Suriname in 1989.

Hugo Jabini is a Saramaka Maroon politician and environmental leader from Suriname. In 1998 he became the spokesman of the Association of Saamaka Authorities. In 2007 he and Wanze Eduards were part of the VSG team that won an landrights lawsuit against the Surinamese government in international court. For their work in the landrights struggle they shared the Goldman Environmental Prize in 2009. From 2010 to 2015 Jabini was a member of the Surinamese National Assembly, as part of the National Democratic Party (NDP).

Chandrikapersad "Chan" Santokhi is a Surinamese politician and former police officer who is the 9th president of Suriname, since 2020. After winning the 2020 elections, Santokhi was the sole nominee for president of Suriname. On 13 July, Santokhi was elected president by acclamation in an uncontested election. He was inaugurated on 16 July.

The other being Nieuw-Nickerie. Paramaribo used to have a generic harbour at Waterkant. In 1965, Nieuwe Haven opened as a specialised cargo harbour.

Gillmore André Hoefdraad is a Surinamese economist and politician. He was Governor of the Central Bank of Suriname from 2010 until 2015, and Ministry of Finance of Suriname from 2015 to 2020. In January 2020, it was reported that US$100 million was missing from the Central Bank. In July 2021, an Interpol red notice was issued for Hoefdraad. Hoefdraad was sentenced in absentia to 12 years imprisonment on 17 December 2021.
