ICW Fear & Loathing IX was a professional wrestling event produced by Insane Championship Wrestling and the ninth in the annual Fear & Loathing event series. It took place on November, 20 2016, at the SSE Hydro in Glasgow, Scotland. The event featured wrestlers from its regular roster like Drew Galloway, Grado, Lionheart, Andy Wild, Mark Coffey [6] as well as international talent in Kurt Angle, Team 3D and Ricochet. The event also featured appearances from WWE superstar (and former ICW Zero-G Champion [12] [13] ) Finn Balor, [14] [15] [16] who had replaced the previously announced Mick Foley. [17] [18] [19]

Production

Background

Attracting over 6,000 fans, ICW Fear & Loathing IX was the most attended event in ICW history [20] [21] [22] and was described as the most attended independent UK and European wrestling event in 35 years. [23] [24] [25] [26] [27]

Storylines

Core storylines leading into the event were feuds and challenges for ICW's titles, with the ICW World Heavyweight Championship, ICW Women's Championship, ICW Tag Team Championship and ICW Zero-G Championship all contested. [4] [28] For the Zero-G Championship match, qualifiers were held, with Andy Wild, for example, defeating Kenny Williams to gain entry. [29]

One primary feud of the event was The Black Label vs. Team Dallas feud for ownership of ICW. [30] [31]

Reception

The event was given the Show of the Year award by the Scottish Wrestling Network [32] while Lewis Girvan vs. Ricochet was also given the SWN award for Match of the Year and Kurt Angle received the Import of the Year SWN award. [33]

Wolfgang vs. Trent Seven was featured in WWE's The Greatest Independent Steel Cage Matches on the WWE Network. [34] [35]

The appearances from Finn Balor and Kurt Angle were ranked #6 and #7 respectively in Sportskeeda's 8 greatest moments in ICW Fear and Loathing history in 2019. [36]

    Insane Championship Wrestling (ICW) is a professional wrestling promotion based in Glasgow, Scotland, founded by Mark Dallas in 2006. It mixes elements of traditional sports entertainment with hardcore wrestling; thus admittance is restricted to those over 18 years old.

    The ICW World Heavyweight Championship is a professional wrestling world heavyweight championship owned by Scotland's Insane Championship Wrestling promotion. The title was first established as the ICW National Heavyweight Championship at ICW's debut show on October 15, 2006, with Drew Galloway becoming the inaugural champion. On February 7, 2015, the title was officially renamed the ICW World Heavyweight Championship after Galloway successfully defended the title in a match against Matt Hardy for the Family Wrestling Entertainment promotion in New York. The championship has been defended in the United Kingdom, Ireland, the United States, Australia, Denmark, Italy, Germany, Spain, Sweden and Canada. In addition to these international title matches, defenses televised in 38 countries via Fight Network as well as an international presence on iPPV.

    Thomas McGowan is a Scottish professional wrestler, better known by his ring name B. T. Gunn. Gunn is a Wrestling Coach at the GPWA Glasgow Asylum. He also wrestles for numerous promotions in the British independent circuit but is best known for his work with Insane Championship Wrestling.

    Adrian McCallum was a British professional wrestler, professional wrestling promoter and actor, better known by his ring name Lionheart. He wrestled for numerous promotions in the British Independent wrestling circuit including Insane Championship Wrestling, in which he reigned as the ICW World Heavyweight Champion until his death, and Preston City Wrestling. He was also the owner of Ayrshire-based wrestling promotion Pro Wrestling Elite.

    Joseph Coffey is a Scottish professional wrestler currently signed to WWE, where he performs on the NXT brand as the leader of Gallus. Coffey wrestles for numerous promotions in the British independent wrestling circuit, including Insane Championship Wrestling where he is former 2 time ICW World Heavyweight Champion and a former ICW Zero-G Champion. Coffey has also previously competed in Japan for Pro Wrestling ZERO1 where he became the first ever Scottish wrestler to perform in the Korakuen Hall. Coffey's younger brother Mark Coffey is also a professional wrestler and the pair often tag team together as "The Coffey Brothers".

    The ICW Zero-G Championship is a professional wrestling junior heavyweight championship owned by United Kingdom's Insane Championship Wrestling promotion. The title was first established as the Zero Gravity Championship at Fear & Loathing III on 21 November 2011, with Noam Dar becoming the inaugural champion.

    The ICW Women's World Championship is a women's professional wrestling championship owned by Scotland's Insane Championship Wrestling promotion. Rhio is the current champion in her first reign. She won the title by defeating Molly Spartan on February 26, 2023, at ICW: Square Go 11 in Glasgow, Scotland

    The ICW Tag Team Championship is a professional wrestling Championship owned by Scotland's Insane Championship Wrestling promotion. Complimenting ICW's two established singles titles, the Tag Team Championship was first established on September 2, 2012 when The S.T.I won a tournament final to become the inaugural champions.

    ICW I Ain't Yer Pal, Dickface! was a professional wrestling event produced by Insane Championship Wrestling. It took place on June, 26 2019, at The Garage in Glasgow, Scotland. The event featured wrestlers like Kez Evans, BT Gunn, Andy Wild, Jonny Storm, Jack Tomlinson, Joe Hendry and a double championship match between ICW World Heavyweight Champion Lionheart and Union of European Wrestling Alliances European Heavyweight Champion Alexander Dean.
