iD Dunedin Fashion Week is an annual festival of fashion held in the New Zealand South Island city of Dunedin. The festival has been held regularly since 1999, and is held in the southern autumn in March or April.

Description

iD Dunedin is run by a not-for-profit charitable organisation, founded in 2000, in cooperation with Otago Polytechnic. Originally intended to focus on local fashion, it has since grown to include designers and designs from around the world. International guest designers have appeared during fashion week since 2010, with the first being British designer Zandra Rhodes. Other international guests have included Akira Isogawa and Stephen Jones. [1]

Two major events are held during the week, the iD International Emerging Designer Awards and iD Dunedin Fashion Show. The latter was held from 2000 to 2017 at the Dunedin Railway Station, using the stations main platform as a catwalk, [1] making it — at 120 metres (390 ft) — one of the world's longest fashion catwalks. The fashion show returned to the Dunedin Railway Station from 2023. [2] The week has developed to include various other events including exhibitions and lectures. [1]

The 2020 fashion awards were held online, due to the Covid-19 pandemic. No fashion week was held in either 2021 or 2022, for the same reason.

Margo Barton is a New Zealand fashion designer, milliner and academic leader of the fashion design programme at Otago Polytechnic. In 2017 she took over the position of chair of the iD Dunedin Fashion Week organising committee.

The Dunedin Writers & Readers Festival is a literary festival held in Dunedin, in the South Island of New Zealand. Since its inception in 2014, there have been in total six festivals, including a special Celtic Noir event in 2019. The event is based mainly at the Dunedin Public Art Gallery but utilises Toitū Otago Settlers Museum, the Otago Pioneer Women's Hall, the Dunedin Central Library and in 2021 the central live music venue Dog with Two Tails. Festival events include talks, book launches, workshops, a storytrain or storybus, and in some years the unveiling of a new plaque on the Dunedin Writers' Walk.

Performing arts in New Zealand include amateur and professional presentations of theatre, circus, dance and music where it accompanies live performance. New Zealand has an active contemporary performing arts culture; many people participate in performing arts activities and most people live near an arts centre or theatre building.

Daniel Alexander Belton is a New Zealand dancer, choreographer and film-maker based in Dunedin. He is the co-founder and artistic director of Good Company Arts (GCA). He is an Arts Foundation of New Zealand Laureate. His works have been shown in America, Europe, South America, Asia and the Pacific.
