The IEEE Power & Energy Society (IEEE PES), formerly the IEEE Power Engineering Society, is the oldest society of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) focused on the scientific and engineering knowledge about electric power and energy. [1] [2] [3]

Mohammad Reza Iravani is a professor in the Edward S. Rogers Sr. Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Toronto. He holds the L. Lau Chair in Electrical and Computer Engineering in same department.
Dr. Mohammad Shahidehpour is a Carl Bodine Distinguished Professor and Chairman in the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department at Illinois Institute of Technology. He is the author of more than 300 technical papers and five books on electric power systems planning, operation, and control.
IEEE 2030 was a project of the standards association of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) that developed a "Guide for Smart Grid Interoperability of Energy Technology and Information Technology Operation with the Electric Power System (EPS), and End-Use Applications and Loads".
Hassan Farhangi is Professor Emeritus at BCIT School of Energy and Retired Director of Smart Microgrid Applied Research Team (SMART) at the British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT) in Burnaby, Canada, and an adjunct professor at the School of Engineering Science at Simon Fraser University. He is known for his pioneering work in the design and development of Canada's first Smart Microgrid on Burnaby Campus of British Columbia Institute of Technology from 2007 onwards, as well as for establishing and leading an NSERC Pan-Canadian Strategic Research Network in Smart Microgrids, consisting of a large number of research-intensive universities (NSMG-Net) in Canada from 2010 to 2016, which trained hundreds of graduate students and published numerous peer-reviewed research papers. Dr. Farhangi retired from his academic and research appointment at British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT) in Sept 2022 to pursue his personal research interests.
GridLAB-D is an open-source simulation and analysis tool that models emerging smart grid energy technologies. It couples power flow calculations with distribution automation models, building energy use and appliance demand models, and market models. It is used primarily to estimate the benefits and impacts of smart grid technology.
IEEE Smart Grid is an initiative launched by IEEE to help provide expertise and guidance for individuals and organizations involved in the modernization and optimization of the power grid, better known as the "smart grid". Mohamed (Mo) El-Aref El-Hawary, was an Egyptian-born Canadian scientist of electric power system studies and the involvement of traditional/modern optimization algorithms, fuzzy systems, and artificial neural networks in their applications. El-Hawary was a mathematician, electrical engineer, computational intelligence researcher and professor of electrical and computer engineering at Dalhousie University.
Daniel Douglas Sabin from Danvers, Massachusetts, USA was named Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) in 2016 for leadership in power quality database management and analysis software. He was a principal engineer with Electrotek Concepts when he was elevated to Fellow.
Marcelo Godoy Simões is a Brazilian-American scientist engineer, professor in Electrical Engineering in Flexible and Smart Power Systems, at the University of Vaasa. He was with Colorado School of Mines, in Golden, Colorado, for almost 21 years, where he is a Professor Emeritus. He was elevated to Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) for applications of artificial intelligence in control of power electronics systems.
Dan Mircea Ionel is Professor of electrical engineer, the L. Stanley Pigman Chair in Power, and the Director of the SPARK Laboratory and of the PEIK Institute at the University of Kentucky, Lexington, KY. Professor Ionel's research includes the electric machines, wind turbines, power system, applications of power electronics, smart buildings. By the number of citations, he is among the world top 2% highly cited researchers.
Marco Liserre is a University Professor in electrical engineering currently Head of the Chair of Power Electronics at the University of Kiel in Kiel, Germany. He was named a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) in 2013. He is Deputy Director of Fraunhofer ISIT and Founder of ISIT@CAU, 2022. Prof. Liserre is also honored with the prestigious IEEE PELS R. David Middlebrook Achievement Award for the year 2023.
Edwin Liu is the current president of Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI). He was previously the Senior Vice President of Smart Grid & Grid Management at Nexant, Inc. He also held various technical and management positions at Quanta Technology, Bechtel, PG&E, Siemens, and Control Data Corporation (CDC). Edwin Liu is an IEEE Fellow and once served as Chairman of its Computer and Analytical Methods Subcommittee.
Md. Azizur (Aziz) Rahman was a Canadian Bangladeshi inventor of modern energy-efficient electric motors that span multiple industry applications. He was an electrical engineer, professor, researcher and scientist. He is internationally recognized as one of the founding innovators of modern power engineering and a pioneer in the development and application of interior permanent magnet motors and associated drive technology-used in the world's first mass-produced hybrid vehicle, the Toyota Prius. Since launching the Prius in 1997, Toyota surpassed global sales of 15 million hybrid vehicles in 2020, all of which use Dr. Rahman's IPM motor drive. His research contributions were broad and adopted in a wide range of electric motor applications ranging from vacuum cleaners, air conditioners, elevators to aircraft.
Gabriela Hug-Glanzmann is a Swiss electrical engineer and an associate professor and Principal Investigator of the Power Systems Laboratory at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) Zürich within the Department of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering. Hug studies the control and optimization of electrical power systems with a focus on sustainable energy.
Mini Shaji Thomas is the Former Director of National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirappalli from 2016 - 2021. Thomas was the first female and 8th director of the Institute since it was founded in 1964.
Ross Baldick is an American professor emeritus of electrical and computer engineering at the University of Texas at Austin. He is an Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) fellow of power and energy society. He is the chairman of the System Economics Sub-Committee of the IEEE Power Engineering and an associate editor of IEEE Transactions on Power Systems.
João P. S. Catalão is a Portuguese electrical engineer and academic. He is currently a professor in the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Porto. He is an IEEE fellow.
Noriko Kawakami is a Japanese electrical engineer whose work involves high-voltage direct current storage, transmission, and conversion, including power conversion for wind turbines. She works in the Power Electronics Systems Division of TMEIC, a joint venture of Toshiba and Mitsubishi Electric, as a senior fellow.
