Bandy is a winter sport and ball sport played by two teams wearing ice skates on a large ice surface while using sticks to direct a ball into the opposing team's goal.
HIFK, the Idrottsföreningen Kamraterna, Helsingfors rf is a multi-sport association based in Helsinki, Finland. Formed in 1897 on the initiative of Georges Doubitsky and fellow students of the Svenska Reallyceum, the Swedish lyceum in Helsinki, it is the oldest continuously-operating Idrottsföreningen Kamraterna (IFK) organization in Finland. HIFK has sections in many sports, including athletics, bandy, bowling, football, ice hockey, and handball.
The Nordic Games were the first international multi-sport event that focused primarily on winter sports, and were held at varying intervals between 1901 and 1926. It was organized by Sweden's Swedish Central Association for the Promotion of Athletics, and more specifically by Viktor Balck, a member of that association and one of the five original members of the International Olympic Committee (IOC). It was, in many ways, a precursor to the modern Winter Olympic Games, whose success was a contributing factor to the Nordic Games's discontinuation in the 1920s.
Idrottsföreningen Kamraterna, usually abbreviated IFK, is a central organisation for many sports clubs in Sweden. There are also eight IFK clubs in Finland but they are organised separately. The Swedish IFK was founded 1 February 1895 and has 164 member clubs with around 100,000 members as of 2004. The best known IFK club in football is probably the one in Gothenburg, IFK Göteborg, which won the UEFA Cup twice in the 1980s. In ice hockey, the most successful IFK club is IFK Helsingfors from Helsinki, which have won the Finnish championship seven times.

IK Göta is a Swedish sports club, which was very successful in several sports such as track and field, handball, bowling, field hockey, ice hockey, soccer and bandy during the 20th century. Their most famous and successful sport was ice hockey. They won the Swedish ice hockey championship nine times, including the inaugural championship in 1922. The club was also operating bandy teams, both women's and men's, winning the Swedish men's championship in bandy once, in 1927. In women's bandy they were far more successful, winning eight times, the last time in 1984.
Karl Gustaf Emanuel "Carl" or "Calle Aber" Abrahamsson was a Swedish track and field athletic, bandy and ice hockey player who competed in the 1928 Winter Olympics. He was also a coach and captain, mainly in the Swedish club Södertälje SK.

IFK Uppsala Bandy is the bandy department of the IFK Uppsala sports club. The club was founded in 1895 and based in Uppsala, Sweden. The club played bandy, association football and athletics already from the start. IFK was one of the major clubs in all of these sports in the first half of the 20th century. In the 1940s it was also successful in handball.
IF Göta is a sports club in Karlstad, Sweden, founded in 1904. In the beginning, the club practised football and athletics. The club used to have a successful team in bandy, becoming Swedish champions six times, but now is only concentrated on athletics. The bandy department was merged with IF Boltic to form BS BolticGöta.

Niilo Rudolf Tammisalo was an influential figure in Finnish sports in the first half of the 20th century. He was a versatile athlete who represented Finland as a player with the national teams in football, ice hockey, and bandy; he was also on Finnish Champion teams in each of the three sports with domestic clubs. When his career as a player came to a close in the early 1930s, he dedicated himself to coaching, refereeing, teaching, and administrating sports organizations.
