The II Mexican National Open Championship 1965 was a badminton competition held in November 1965 in Mexico City. [1]

In the men's singles event, the semi-finalists were the World number one Erland Kops, Channarong Ratanaseangsuang, Don Paup and Antonio Rangel. Erland Kops defeated (15-2, 15-4) Antonio Rangel, while Channarong Ratanaseangsuang won to Don Paup (15-1, 15-10). In the final, Erland Kops showed off his class against Channarong Ratanaseangsuang. In the men's doubles category, the Mexican brothers Antonio Rangel and Raúl Rangel lost in semi-finals (15-2, 15-4) against the future winners Erland Kops and Don Paup. [4]

In the semi-finals of the women's singles category, the American Dorothy O´Neil defeated the Mexican Carolina Allier 7-11, 11-8, 12-11. [4]

Erland Kops was a badminton player from Denmark who won numerous major international singles and doubles titles from the late 1950s to the early 1970s.

Tan Aik Huang is a retired Malaysian badminton player noted for his footwork and patience. He was a former All England champion, having won the men's singles title in 1966. Tan was a member of four Malaysian Thomas Cup teams including its world champion team of 1967. He also won numerous major international singles titles during the mid- and late 1960s including the Danish Open, the US Open, the Canadian Open, the Malaysian Open and the Singapore Open. Additionally, Tan holds the distinction of being the first Malaysian shuttler in the Commonwealth Games to win two gold medals in individual events. He is the elder brother of Tan Aik Mong.

In 1964, 26 national teams divided in 4 zones competed for the right to challenge the champion Indonesia for the Thomas Cup. Until this year, the Pan American zone had been basically a dual meet between Canada and the United States which had always been won by the latter. This time 2 more American teams; Mexico and Jamaica, joined the competition. In addition, Japan was included to compete in this zone.
