ING Belgium is the Belgian subsidiary of the ING Group, an international banking company. The bank was formerly known as Bank Brussel Lambert which became part of ING Group in 1998. It provides retail and commercial banking services to individuals and businesses in Belgium, together with related financial products such as insurance and asset management.

History

BBL was created in 1975 from the merger of Banque de Bruxelles and Banque Lambert.

The Banque Belge pour l'Étranger was a Belgian bank that operated mainly in Asia. It was originally established in 1902 in Brussels as the Banque Sino-Belge, by the Société Générale de Belgique at the request of King Leopold II of Belgium. Its Hong Kong operation, initiated in 1935, was later renamed the Belgian Bank in 1980, Générale de Banque belge pour l’Étranger in 1985, General Belgian Bank in 1992, and Fortis Bank Asia in 2000, before being sold in 2005 to ICBC (Asia), the Hong Kong subsidiary of Industrial and Commercial Bank of China.

ING Vysya Bank was a privately owned Indian multinational bank based in Bangalore, with retail, wholesale, and private banking platforms formed from the 2002 purchase of an equity stake in Vysya Bank by the Dutch ING Group. The Antwerp Diamond Bank (ADB) was a small, 75-year-old bank that specialized exclusively in serving the diamond and the diamond jewelry sector. In addition to its headquarters in Antwerp, it had offices covering all the major traditional as well as emerging diamond centers such as Antwerp, Dubai, Geneva, Hong Kong, Mumbai and New York.
