ISCAR Ltd. is a world-leading manufacturer of precision metal cutting tools, headquartered in Israel and part of the International Metalworking Companies (IMC) Group. The company serves a diverse range of industries, including aerospace, automotive, energy, medical, and general engineering, providing advanced machining solutions that enhance productivity and efficiency.
A major milestone occurred in 2006 when Berkshire Hathaway, led by Warren Buffett, becoming one of its largest non-insurance companies. [1]
ISCAR was founded in 1952 by Stef Wertheimer, an Israeli metalworker in his backyard in the coastal town of Nahariya. ISCAR began as a modest workshop in an old shack, supported by the dedication and encouragement of Stef’s wife, Miriam. From the outset, Wertheimer’s vision challenged conventional thinking in the metalworking industry, laying the foundation for a company built on hard work, innovation, and long-term excellence. Over the decades, ISCAR transformed from a small family business into one of the world’s leading full-line tooling manufacturers.
In 1982, the company moved its operations to Migdal Tefen (Tefen industrial zone) in the Upper Galilee establishing a modern industrial campus at the heart of the Tefen Industrial Park. [2] Under the leadership of Stef’s son, Eitan Wertheimer, ISCAR’s global expansion accelerated throughout the 1980s, reaching markets in Europe, the Far East, and across the Americas. By building plants, distribution networks, and sales/service offices worldwide, the company ensured that ISCAR products could be delivered almost anywhere on the globe within hours.
Today, ISCAR stands as a flagship brand of the International Metalworking Companies (IMC) Group—a network of over 130 subsidiaries in more than 60 countries. From humble beginnings in 1952 to a global leadership position today, ISCAR’s journey reflects a unique blend of visionary leadership, relentless innovation, and strategic expansion—values that remain at the core of its success story.
