I Fought the Law is an upcoming British true crime television series for ITV starring Sheridan Smith. [1]

Premise

Bereaved British mother Ann Ming and her husband, Charlie, embarked on a long campaign to overturn the 800-year-old British double jeopardy law, which prevented people being tried twice for the same offence. In 2006, a man was jailed for life for the murder in 1989 of Ming's daughter Julie, despite previous mistrials. [2]

Production

The series is based on Ann Ming's book For the Love of Julie. Ming is working as a consultant on the show, which is written by Jamie Crichton and has the working title I Fought The Law. [3] The series is produced by Hera Pictures with Liza Marshall and Charlotte Webber as executive producers. All3Media International will distribute the series globally. Sheridan Smith joined the cast as Ann Ming in May 2024. [4] [5]

Filming started in August 2024 in Hartlepool, County Durham and Newcastle upon Tyne, with the title of the series reported as Fight for the Truth as well as I Fought the Law. [6] [7] [8]

<i>Brief Encounters</i> (TV series) UK TV series (2016)

Brief Encounters is a British comedy-drama series created by Oriane Messina and Fay Rusling. The series is loosely based on Gold Group International CEO Jacqueline Gold's 1995 memoir, Good Vibrations, and details the beginning of the Ann Summers retailer company, through four women who see the potential of finding happiness and fulfillment by selling lingerie and sex toys to women in the privacy of their own homes. The series was produced by CPL Productions for broadcast on ITV and aired from 4 July to 8 August 2016. Filming took place between January and April 2016 in Sheffield. It was well received by critics. The show was cancelled by ITV two months after the airing of last episode.

Blood Strangers is a two-part British television crime drama, written by Gwyneth Hughes and directed by Jon Jones, that broadcast across two consecutive nights in February 2002 on ITV. The series was commissioned in January 2001, as one of two new projects to star Caroline Quentin, with the other, Hot Money, broadcasting in December 2001. Nick Elliott, then controller of drama at ITV, described Quentin as being "...very good at playing very ordinary women."
