I Promised the World is an American metalcore band from Denton, Texas. Formed as Sw!tch, [4] before changing their name to Sinema in 2023, the group gained wider attention following the release of their debut EP After the Flatline and later signed to Rise Records in 2025. Their music draws heavily from early 2000s post-hardcore and emo influences, taking influences from bands such as Armor for Sleep, Saosin, Panic! at the Disco, Misery Signals, American Football and BadBadNotGood. [1]
Vocalist and guitarist Caleb Molina began writing music following the death of his father after a prolonged hospitalization due to COVID-19 in 2020. Material written during this period later formed the basis of the band’s debut EP, After the Flatline, whose cover artwork features a printed strip of his father’s final heartbeat. [1] The following August, they released their debut album Fear of the Fall. [5]
In May 2025, the band changed their name to I Promised the World due to other acts sharing the name Sinema. [1] That November, they announced their signing with Rise Records, accompanied by a self titled EP I Promised the World, which was released on January 16, 2026. [6]
The band released a music video for the single "Bliss in 7 Languages" through Rise Records. Writing for Stereogum , Tom Breihan described the track as reflecting early-2000s post-hardcore and metalcore aesthetics, situating the band within a broader revival of that style. [7]
In late 2025, bassist Aidan Vickers would quietly leave the group due to personal reasons. Vickers' last appearance with the group would be on December 6th, 2025 at No Sleep Fest, an annual hardcore festival based in Houston, Texas. The group would then add Rivers Shutt after Vickers' departure. Shutt, currently the lead singer for the Denton based post-hardcore band atcitdio, was recruited due to close relations with the group. Additionally, Shutt played guitar in the emotive-hardcore band Of Eden, also based in Denton. Of Eden has since disbanded, with their final live appearance being on January 31st, 2026.
