Ian Andre Roberts (born December 18, 1973) is a Guyanese-American educator and former Olympic athlete. He is the former superintendent of the Millcreek Township School District in Millcreek Township, Erie County, Pennsylvania. [1] He is the current superintendent of the Des Moines Independent Community School District [2] [3] in Des Moines, Iowa.
As a male middle distance runner from Guyana, Ian specialized in the 800m. [4] He competed in the 2000 Summer Olympic Games in Sydney, Australia. He won his first international medal, winning the 1999 Central American and Caribbean Championships in Athletics in Bridgetown, Barbados where he won the gold medal. He competed in the Middle Eastern Athletic Conference where he won several conference titles and placed sixth in the 800m at the NCAA Championships. He went on to St. John's University where he competed in the Big East Conference winning several championships, and making the NCAA finals in 1999.
After winning conference titles in both Division 1 Conferences, he competed internationally. He competed in the 1999 World Indoor Championships in Maebashi, Japan but failed to advance past the quarter-finals. He competed in the 1999 World Outdoor Championships in Seville, Spain but failed to advance past the quarter-finals. He competed in the 1999 Pan-American Games in Winnipeg, Canada where he fell in the 800m finals.[ citation needed ]
Ian Weakly AKA Ian Weakley is a retired male hurdler from Jamaica. Weakly's best performance came in 2003 with a time of 48.55 in the 400 meter hurdles, ran in Trikala, Greece.
Iowa State Cyclones track and field represents Iowa State University (ISU) and competes in the Big 12 Conference of NCAA Division I. The team is coached by Martin Smith, he is currently in his 4th year at Iowa State. Originally, the men's and women's teams were considered separate; but beginning in the 2007 season the two teams were combined and are now operated as one single sport at the university. The Cyclones host their home indoor meets at Lied Recreational Facility and their home outdoor meets at the Cyclone Sports Complex, both are located on Iowa State's campus.
Geena Gall, is an Olympic American mid-distance runner who ran for the University of Michigan. Gall's achievements include back to back NCAA Outdoor Championships in the 800m in 2008 and 2009, representing the USA at the 2012 Olympic Games in London and 2009 World Championships in Athletics in Berlin, Germany in the 800m. She also competed at the North American Central American Caribbean Championships in San Salvador, El Salvador in 2007 and Toluca, Mexico in 2008. Gall was a member of the "Fab Four" who set two collegiate records at the 2007 Penn Relays, a ten-time NCAA All-American, owning two Big Ten 800 meter records and two DMR records, 10 Big Ten championships, numerous U of M school records, and at Grand Blanc High School she was a three-time national champion.
Kenneth Ekow Andam is a retired Ghanaian sprinter who competed in the 4 × 100 metres relay at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, Australia. Andam was an All-American in track and field while competing for Brigham Young University.
Ryan Wilson is an American track and field athlete who specializes in the 110 meters hurdles. He is a previous national champion after winning at the 2013 USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, and the current national silver medal holder at the 2014 USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. He was the 2003 NCAA champion in the event and won four hurdles titles in the Pacific-10 Conference. He was the bronze medalist at the 2008 IAAF World Athletics Final and was the runner-up at the 2010 USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. His personal best time of 13.02 seconds, set in 2007 at the Reebok Grand Prix, ranks him within the top twenty fastest of all time in the event.
Erik Sowinski is an American middle-distance runner, who specializes in the 800 metres. He won a bronze medal in the event at the 2016 World Indoor Championships, and he is a three-time national champion. He also formerly held the American indoor record in the 600 meters. Sowinski has garnered recognition for pacing other athletes to fast times, often in high-profile competitions.
Derrick Peterson, raised in Atlanta suburbs, is a retired American middle-distance runner who specialized in the 800 meters. He represented the USA at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece, 2001 World Championships in Edmonton, Canada. Was 2002 Indoor USA Track and Field Champion. He won the silver medal in the 800m event at the 2001 Summer Universiade and the bronze(800m) and gold as a member of the 4x400 meter relay at the 1999 Summer Universiade.
Clayton Murphy is an American middle-distance runner. He won the bronze medal in the 800-meter run at the 2016 Olympic Games. He was the gold medalist in the 800-meter run at the 2015 Pan American Games. He ran collegiately for the University of Akron, before signing with Nike in June 2016 and joining the Nike Oregon Project.
Raevyn Rogers is an American middle-distance athlete. She won a bronze medal in the 800 meters at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, becoming the fourth fastest woman in U.S. history in the event. At the 2019 World Championships, Rogers came from seventh with 100m remaining in the race to place silver over USA teammate Ajeé Wilson in bronze. She earned a world indoor title as a member of national 4x400 m relay squad that took gold at the 2018 World Indoor Championships.
Christopher Carl "Chris" Giesting is an American track and field sprinter who competes in the 400-meter dash. He was a gold medalist in the 4 × 400-meter relay at the 2016 IAAF World Indoor Championships. He ran collegiately for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and won one NCAA indoor title.
