ICE Today is a Bangladeshi lifestyle magazine focusing on contemporary culture and society in the country. The magazine has sections dedicated to business, fashion, health, women, music, travel and cuisine. [1]

Contents

History and profile

ICE Today was started in 2003. [2] It is published on a monthly basis. [3] The magazine is under the ICE Media Ltd publishing umbrella, which produces ICE Business Times, Jamini, Charbela Chardik, and Bengal Barota. Its publisher is entrepreneur Abul Khair Litu, who has also published Shilpa O Shilpi about Bangladeshi art. Litu is an art enthusiast and active in the Bengal Gallery of Fine Arts. [4] [5] [6]

The current staff is Nawshin Khair, executive director; Nobonita Chowdhury, managing editor; Syeda Samara Mortada, associate editor; and Goutom Saha, fashion editor. [1]

The current editor replaced Ziaul Karim, who was appointed editor of the magazine in 2007. Karim, active in journalism since 1990, was a former reporter for The Morning Sun (newspaper) and The Daily Star (Bangladesh), and he was the former features editor for News Day. Karim was also appointed at the same time the editor of Jamini. [7]

Several prominent literary names have been associated with the magazine. Author and poet Syed Shamsul Haque is chair of the editorial board. [1] The Bengali poet Hayat Saif is a former managing editor.

Sheikh Mahim Edward is a Bangladeshi Music Composer, also known as Edward and known for 'Love in the Bike' Series, 'My mind is Change' Series, Alhamdulillah i got you, Love as your mind and more albums, series & sings as 'Edward'. He also owns a label called Edward Musik.

Editorial focus

The magazine says its title ICE stands for "information, communication and entertainment", and the magazine regularly covers "fashion, beauty, food ... travel, gadgets, events" and contains monthly interviews. [1]

The magazine is a booster for Bangladeshi businesses, such as airlines and other national brands, through its content, awards and service. [8] [9] Its staff is also active in community service and the art scene. [10]

Tajuddin Ahmad was a Bangladeshi politician and statesman. He led the Provisional Government of Bangladesh as its prime minister during the Bangladesh Liberation War in 1971 and is regarded as one of the most instrumental figures in the birth of Bangladesh.

Abdul Gaffar Choudhury was a Bangladeshi-born British writer, journalist, columnist, political analyst and poet. He wrote the lyrics to "Amar Bhaier Rokte Rangano", a widely celebrated song commemorating the Bengali Language Movement. He was awarded Bangla Academy Literary Award in 1967, Ekushey Padak in 1983, and Independence Day Award in 2009.

The Daily Star is a Bangladeshi English-language daily newspaper. It is by far the largest circulating English-language newspaper in the country. Founded by Syed Mohammed Ali on 14 January 1991, as Bangladesh transitioned and restored parliamentary democracy, the newspaper became popular for its outspoken coverage of politics, corruption, and foreign policy. It is considered a newspaper of record for Bangladesh. The newspaper has been described as having a "reputation for journalistic integrity and liberal and progressive views - a kind of Bangladeshi New York Times".

Sheikh Fazlul Haque Moni was a Bangladeshi politician. He was one of the nephews of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman the founding father of Bangladesh. He was the founder of Mujib Bahini Bangladesh Liberation Force-BLF one of the major guerrilla forces of the Bangladesh Liberation War and also the founder of Bangladesh Awami Jubo League, the youth wing of Bangladesh Awami League.

The 7 March Speech of Bangabandhu, or the 7/3 Speech, was a public speech given by Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the Founding Father of Bangladesh on 7 March 1971 at the Ramna Race Course in Dhaka to a gathering of over two million (2,000,000) people. It was delivered during a period of escalating tensions between East Pakistan and the powerful political and military establishment of West Pakistan. In the speech, Bangabandhu informally declared the independence of Bangladesh, proclaiming: "The struggle this time, is a struggle for our liberty. The struggle this time, is a struggle for our independence." He announced a civil disobedience movement in the province, calling for "every house to turn into a fortress".

A. N. M. Serajur Rahman was a British journalist of Bengali Muslim descent and broadcaster. From 1960 to 1994, he worked for BBC World Service, and was the deputy chief of BBC Bangla Service before retirement.

Kazi Khaleed Ashraf is a Bangladeshi architect, urbanist and architectural historian. Writing from the intersection of architecture, landscape and the city, Ashraf has authored books and essays on architecture in India and Bangladesh, the work of Louis Kahn, and the city of Dhaka. His various writings on the architecture of Bangladesh have provided a theoretical ground for understanding both the historical and contemporary forms of architecture, while his written and design work on Dhaka advances that city as a "theorem" for understanding urbanism in a deltaic geography. Ashraf and contributing team received the Pierre Vago Journalism Award from the International Committee of Architectural Critics for the Architectural Design publication Made in India. He has also co-authored a number of publications with the architect Saif Ul Haque. Ashraf has recently established an international publication series called Locations: Anthology of Architecture and Urbanism that will present works and features from around the globe.

Ferdousi Priyabhashini was a Bangladeshi sculptor. She was the first one to publicly announce herself as Birangona, a term coined by Sheikh Mujibur Rahman for the rape victims of the Liberation War of Bangladesh in 1971. Government of Bangladesh awarded her Independence Day Award in 2010.

Ziaul Faruq Apurba is a Bangladeshi model and actor. He usually works in television, but has also appeared in films. He is also a singer.

<i>Oggatonama</i> 2016 film

Oggatonama is a 2016 Bangladeshi drama film directed and written by Tauquir Ahmed. It was selected as the Bangladeshi entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 89th Academy Awards, but it was not nominated. The film stars Fazlur Rahman Babu, Shahiduzzaman Selim, Mosharraf Karim, Nipun Akter, Shatabdi Wadud, and several others. Oggatonama was released on 19 August 2016 in Bangladesh by Impress Telefilm. It is about a Bangladeshi migrant who dies after illegally entering the United Arab Emirates with a fake passport. The Bangladesh police receive the wrong corpse.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Bengal Foundation</span>

The Bengal Foundation is a Bangladeshi non-profit and charitable organization headquartered in Dhanmondi, Dhaka. It is mostly known for organizing local and international events in the country.

Syed Md. Ziaul Karim is a judge of the High Court Division of Bangladesh Supreme Court.
