The Czechoslovakia men's national ice hockey team was the national ice hockey team of Czechoslovakia, and competed from 1920 until 1992. The successor to the Bohemia national ice hockey team, which was a European power prior to World War I, the Czechoslovak national team first appeared at the 1920 Summer Olympics, two years after the creation of the state. In the 1940s, they established themselves as the best team in Europe, becoming the first team from the continent to win two World Championships. After the arrival of the Soviet Union on the international hockey scene in the 1950s, the Czechoslovaks regularly fought Sweden and Canada for silver and bronze medals, and sometimes beat the Soviets. In total, they won the gold medal six times.

Ihor Mykhaylovych Rybak was a Ukrainian weightlifter. He competed for the Soviet Union twice, at the 1956 Summer Olympics and 1956 European Championships. On both occasions he won ahead of Ravil Khabutdinov. Due to the severe competition within the Soviet Union, Rybak never won a national title, and by 1960 was left out of the national team. In retirement he worked in sports medicine.

Nations had been limited to two shooters each since the 1952 Games. Tanyu Kiryakov won, becoming the first shooter to win Olympic gold medals in both this event and 10 metre air pistol. 2.7 points behind, Igor Basinski won his fourth Olympic medal. Kiryakov's gold was Bulgaria's first free pistol victory, and the first medal of any color in the event for the nation since 1980. Martin Tenk's bronze was the Czech Republic's first medal in the event.

Libor Wälzer is a Czech weightlifter. Walzer represented the Czech Republic at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, where he competed for the men's heavyweight category (105 kg). Walzer placed sixteenth in this event, as he successfully lifted 163 kg (359 lb) in the single-motion snatch, and hoisted 187 kg (412 lb) in the two-part, shoulder-to-overhead clean and jerk, for a total of 350 kg (770 lb). Walzer was later elevated to a higher position, when Ukraine's Ihor Razoronov had been disqualified from the Olympics, after he tested positive for nandrolone.
