Ilamo is a community located in Ikole Local government area in Ekiti State of Nigeria. The town is predominantly inhabited by the Ekiti people, who are part of the Yoruba ethnic group in southwestern Nigeria. [1] [2] The area of Ilamo encompasses the Ojuju Rock and its surrounding areas, sharing borders with the neighboring communities of Usin, Asin, Isaba, and Ikole. [3]

The earliest settlers of Ilamo initially established themselves at Osan, Oke-Ilamo, near the Itajuju (Ojuju Rock) area. Over time, the settlement expanded and evolved into a populous village. [4]

The traditional ruler of Ilamo holds the title of Alamo of Ilamo Ekiti. The current Alamo, Oba Adebayo Paul Awoseyila, was appointed on March 26, 2003. [5] [6] [7] [8]

Ilamo’s economy is primarily agricultural, with residents cultivating food crops like yams and cassava, as well as cash crops such as cocoa and kola nuts. The community has basic infrastructure, including schools, medical facilities, and religious centers. [1]

Ilamo experiences hot, muggy dry seasons and warm, overcast wet seasons, with temperatures ranging from 62°F to 90°F throughout the year. [1]

Ikole is a Local Government Area of Ekiti State, Nigeria. Its headquarters are in the town of Ikole. The current Chairman of the Local Government is Prince Olominu Sola Ebenezer, who polled a total of 21,228 votes to defeat other candidates in the 2019 local government election in Ekiti State, Nigeria that was organised by the state Independent Electoral Commission (SIEC). He was sworn in alongside other newly elected chairpersons and vice chairpersons for the 16 Local Government Area of Ekiti State, Nigeria by Dr. Kayode Fayemi, governor of the state on 31 December 2019. The Local Government Chairman is the Head of the Local Government Council, as well as the approving officer for funds disbursement and the Chief Security Officer for the Ikole Local Government Area. The Ekiti people are one of the largest historical subgroups of the larger Yoruba people of West Africa, located in Nigeria. They are classified as a Central Yoruba group, alongside the Ijesha, Igbomina, Yagba and Ifes. Ekiti State is populated exclusively by Ekiti people; however, it is but a segment of the historic territorial domain of Ekiti-speaking groups, which historically included towns in Ondo State such as Akure, Ilara-Mokin, Ijare, and Igbara-oke. Ogbagi, Irun, Ese, Oyin, Igasi, Afin and Eriti in the Akoko region, as well as some towns in Kwara State, are also culturally Ekiti, although belong in other states today.

Gboyega Aribisogan is a Nigerian politician who served as speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly in November 2022. He is a two-term lawmaker representing Ikole I constituency. Aribisogan who hails from Ijesha-Isu in Ikole Local Government Area, in the North senatorial district of Ekiti State was elected on 15 November 2022 as the speaker of the house following the demise of Funminiyi Afuye. He was impeached on 21 November 2022 six days after taking office.

The 2023 Nigerian presidential election in Ekiti State was held on 25 February 2023 as part of the nationwide 2023 Nigerian presidential election to elect the president and vice president of Nigeria. Other federal elections, including elections to the House of Representatives and the Senate, were also held on the same date while state elections were held two weeks afterward on 11 March.
