The name AlWood comes from the combination of Alpha and Woodhull, two villages in southwestern Henry County which each had their own high schools until a consolidation in 1948. AHS is part of AlWood Community Unit School District 225, which also includes AlWood Middle School, and AlWood Elementary School. The school is combined with the Alwood Middle School to form Alwood Middle-High School. This is the result of an addition to the high school building and demolition of the former middle school building in 2001. However, academics, athletics, and activities remain mostly separate. The campus is 25 miles southeast of Moline, Illinois and 20 miles north of Galesburg, Illinois. It serves a mixed village and rural residential community. Illini West High School (IWHS) is a public high school in Carthage, Illinois, United States. IWHS serves a mostly rural area that includes most of northeastern Hancock County and extends into parts of Henderson and McDonough Counties, covering the cities of Carthage, Dallas City, and La Harpe, and the village of Ferris. The campus is located 25 miles (40 km) west of Macomb, Illinois, and has a student body of 332 students in grades 9–12 as of the 2017–18 school year. IWHS was established in 2007 as a convergence of Carthage, Dallas City, and La Harpe High Schools and is housed at the former Carthage High School. The building is located at 201 S. Orange St in Orangeville, Illinois, a village in Stephenson County, Illinois. The school serves students residing in the communities of Orangeville, Red Oak, Oneco, Afolkey, Buena Vista, Damascus, Buckhorn Corners, and surrounding area. In 2019, the city’s elementary school was transferred to this building to include all grades within the same complex. The building itself was built to its current state in 1948 after the original building was destroyed by a fire.
