Image: 1983-1998 is a compilation of electronic music by Japanese artist Susumu Yokota. It was released in 1998 on Skintone in Japan, and on September 13, 1999 by The Leaf Label in the United Kingdom.
The album includes tracks created between 1983 and 1998 and originally on Yokota's own Skintone label. The album runs semi-chronologically, the first five tracks being from the years 1983 and 1984, whilst the remainder consists of tracks made in 1997 and 1998. The CD version also includes a fold-out of visual art created by Yokota in 1987 and 1988.
In the United Kingdom, the album was released both on CD and on vinyl. Tracks one through seven are included on side A, while the latter six tracks are on side B.

A CD single is a music single in the form of a compact disc. The standard in the Red Book for the term CD single is an 8 cm (3-inch) CD. It now refers to any single recorded onto a CD of any size, particularly the CD5, or 5-inch CD single. The format was introduced in the mid-1980s but did not gain its place in the market until the early 1990s. With the rise in digital downloads in the early 2010s, sales of CD singles have decreased.
"Subhuman" is a 1995 song written, recorded and produced by alternative rock band Garbage, and was originally released as an international b-side on "Vow", Garbage's debut single. That song had earlier been pressed as a limited edition 7" vinyl in the United Kingdom for the purposes of launching the band; when it came to re-releasing "Vow", Mushroom Records felt that "Subhuman" was strong enough to be issued as an A-side to follow up "Vow". A last-minute decision was made to switch the songs. "Vow" was relegated to bonus track on the CD single.

In 1999, after releasing Sumo Jungle, he was given an opportunity to compose for Ape Escape.

It is notable as being one of his first records to engage with techno music, as well as its psychedelic and atmospheric sound.
