Indian Supercross Racing League (ISRL) is an Indian motorcycle racing league. Unlike other leagues which are city-based, it is a franchise-based supercross league organised by Team SXI in collaboration with the Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India (FMSCI). [1] [2] CEAT is the main sponsor of ISRL while Toyota Hilux is the official vehicle partner for Season1. [3] Frenchman, Jordi Tixier, a former World Motocross Champion (2018) won three races in the inaugural ISRL Round 1 held at Pune on 28 January 2024. [4] [5] BigRock Motorsports won the team championship table after three rounds. [6]
The first round of the inaugural season was scheduled to begin at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi followed by another three rounds in Mumbai, Pune and Ahmedabad from October to December 2023. [7] However, the calendar was cut short and the first round was successfully held at Pune on 28 January 2024. The second round was held at Ahmedabad. Big Rock Motorsports was leading the team championship after two rounds. [8] [9]
The final round scheduled to be held at Delhi was shifted to Bengaluru due the farmers' strike in Delhi. Bollywood actor Arjun Kapoor launched the ISRL on 1 June 2023 in New Delhi. [10] Earlier in November 2022, fmsci vice-president Gautham Shanthappa announced that the federation has signed an MoU granting rights to Team SXI. [11]
Former Supercross international racers brothers Eeshan Lokhande and Aashwin Lokhande, along with Veer Patel formed Supercross India Private Limited (Team SXI), the parent company of ISRL. The opening of rider registrations were announced on 20 July 2023 in Pune. [12]
The first of the four categories will be the 450cc category, the premier class of supercross racing globally (this class is open only for international riders in the opening season). There are two 250cc categories one for international riders and a separate category for Indian and Asian riders. The final 85cc category is for riders between 11 and 14 years. [13]
The first team to acquire the franchise rights is BB Racing, owned by former racer Atul Chordia's Panchshil Reality of Pune. [14] SG Sports, the sports branch of APL Apollo Group, became the second franchise team, headed by Sanjay Gupta, CMD. [15] Dhrumil Patel, a Vadodara-based entrepreneur, along with Indian motorsport rally driver Arjuna Awardee Gaurav Gill have acquired the franchise rights for Gujarat Trailblazers, the third ISRL team. [16] BigRock Motorsport has been announced as the fourth franchise team for ISRL. [17] Popular Supercross Indian champion and the first Indian rider to complete Dakar Rally, CS Santosh will be heading the BigRock team.
One of the first Stadium motocross events was held in Los Angeles Coliseum in 1972, Jaipur hosted India's first stadium motocross event in 1977. Later in 1988, Pune hosted the inaugural round of the 250cc Rodil Trophy Stadium Motocross World Championship at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium. [18] The Indian Grand Prix races for the 125cc and 250cc classes, were also held along with the Rodil Trophy, More recently, the Pune Invitational Supercross held five editions till 2019. The Indian Federation,fmsci, also conducts the MRF MoGrip National Supercross Championship annually. [19]
Motocross is a form of off-road motorcycle racing held on enclosed off-road circuits. The sport evolved from motorcycle trials competitions held in the United Kingdom.
The AMA Supercross Championship is an American motorcycle racing series. Founded by the American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) in 1974, the AMA Supercross Championship races are held from January through early May. Supercross is a variant of motocross which involves off-road motorcycles on a constructed dirt track consisting of steep jumps and obstacles; the tracks are usually constructed inside a sports stadium. The easy accessibility and comfort of these stadium venues helped supercross surpass off-road motocross as a spectator attraction in the United States by the late 1970s.
Jeremy McGrath is an American former professional motocross and supercross racer. Considered one of the most popular and influential riders in the history of motorcycle racing, McGrath won seven AMA Supercross 250cc championships, one 250cc AMA Motocross championship, two 125cc West championships and a record 72 premier class supercross wins. He was also a two-time FIM Supercross World Champion as well as a two-time Team USA Motocross des Nations winner.
Jeffrey Ward is a British-American former professional motocross racer, auto racing driver and off-road racer. He won the AMA Motocross Championship five times and the AMA Supercross Championship twice and the Motocross des Nations seven times. After retiring from motorcycle competition, Ward turned to auto racing, finishing in second place at the Indianapolis 500 and winning a race at the Texas Motor Speedway. He then competed in off-road truck racing and rallycross. Ward was inducted into the Motorcycle Hall of Fame in 1999 and, was inducted into the Motorsports Hall of Fame of America on 12 August 2006.
Robert William Hannah is an American former professional motocross racer. He competed in the AMA Motocross Championships from 1975 to 1989, most notably as a member of the Yamaha factory racing team. He was one of the most successful motocross racers in AMA history, with 70 AMA race victories and seven championships.
The Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India, abbreviated as FMSCI, is the governing body for motor sports in India and was founded in 1971. It is a long-standing member of the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM) and Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA), the world bodies for 2/3 and 4 wheeler motor sport respectively.
Indian National Rally Championship (INRC) is a rallying National Championship in different classes with a series of rounds, organised under the aegis of the Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India (FMSCI), which is the Governing Body or ASN of India recognised by FIA culminating with National Champion Driver and Co-Driver. The driver and co-drivers's championship are based on a point system. The championship first received its National Championship Title status in 1988. Aroor Arjun Rao of Mangaluru is the reigning National champion. Supported by MRF Tyres, he drives for Mandovi Racing team in a Maruti Baleno. The 2024 National Championship begins in Chennai from 15 March 2024 with the South India Rally (SIR) which is also a round of the APRC Asia Cup.

CS Santosh is an Indian off-road and enduro motorcycle racer. His full name is Chunchunguppe Shivashankar Santosh. He is a multiple National Supercross and Motocross champion. CS Santosh has spent more than a decade racing motorbikes across challenging terrains and multiple nations. He is a rider who is under the banner of Hero MotoSports, and has spearheaded a rally revolution of sorts in India. Santosh has also given fresh hope to fellow talented riders that they too can make the step up to the global rally level.
Eli Tomac is an American professional Motocross and Supercross racer who competes in the AMA Supercross and Motocross championships; a two-time AMA 450cc Supercross champion, four-time AMA 450cc motocross champion, one-time AMA 250cc Supercross and AMA motocross champion. He is second all-time in 450cc AMA Supercross wins with 52, and third all-time in 450cc AMA Motocross wins with 32.
Aishwarya Pissay is an Indian circuit and off-road motorcycle racer. She has become the first-ever Indian motorsports athlete to win a world title. The TVS talent participated at the FIM Bajas World Cup and secured the 1st place in the women's category and 2nd in the junior's category. She is the first Indian woman to win 7 FMSCI National titles, including 6 consecutive Indian National Rally Championship in two-wheelers from 2017. She started with Circuit Racing winning Honda one-make and TVS one-make titles and went on to win multiple Indian National Rally Championship titles before moving to bigger cross-country rallies.
Harith Noah is a professional motorsports athlete from Shoranur in Kerala, India. He represents India in international cross country rallies such as the Dakar Rally. He is also the third rider from India to finish Dakar rally successfully after C.S. Santosh and Aravind K.P. He is also the fastest from India. He took a historic victory for India in the Rally 2 category of Motorcycles at the 46th Dakar Rally on 19 January 2024 and finished in the overall top-11, to become the fastest from India at Dakar. Earlier, he bagged two stage wins in his class, the Rally 2.
Aravind Kadiyali Prabhakar, also known as Aravind K.P., is an Indian professional motor racer. He is the second Indian to complete Dakar Rally successfully after C.S. Santosh. He is a product of TVS Racing.
Tom Vialle is a French professional motocross racer. He competed in the Motocross World Championship from 2019 to 2022 & the AMA Supercross/Motocross Championships since 2023. He is a two-time MX2 Motocross World Champion, won the 2023 Motocross des Nations as a member of team France. He is the 2024 AMA Supercross 250cc East Champion.
Jordi Tixier is a French professional motocross rider. He is known for winning the 2014 MX2 World Championship. Jordi Tixier took part in the inaugural Indian Supercross Racing League (ISRL) and won a double winning two motos on 28 January 2024.
Yuva Kumar is an Indian Motorcycle Rally Racer/Pilot. He was born in Chittor, Andhra Pradesh and raised in Bengaluru, Karnataka. He did his schooling and college education in Bangalore and Mysore.
Aaron Plessinger is an American professional motocross and supercross racer. Plessinger has ridden professionally in the AMA Supercross Championship and the AMA Motocross Championship since 2015. He is a one-time AMA Supercross 250cc West & AMA Motocross 250cc Champion.
Copparam Shreyas Hareesh was an Indian racing rider. He won the inaugural MiniGP India series in September 2022. Shreyas made his National debut in 2021 and got a podium and a victory in his very first year. At the Uttar Pradesh Global Investors Summit 2023 in Lucknow, he was felicitated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 10 February 2023.
