Ongole is a city in Prakasam district of the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. It is the headquarters of Prakasam district. It is famous for Ongole cattle, an indigenous breed of oxen.
Tanguturi Prakasam popularly known as Prakasam Pantulu, was an Indian jurist, political leader, social reformer, and anti-colonial nationalist who served as the Prime Minister of the Madras Presidency. Prakasam subsequently became the first chief minister of the erstwhile Andhra State, created by the partition of Madras State along the linguistic lines. Prakasam was known as "Andhra Kesari" which translates to "Lion of Andhra". The Andhra Pradesh government issued G.O RT-2500 on 10 August 2014 declaring his birth anniversary a State holiday.
Prakasamdistrict is one of the twelve districts in the coastal Andhra region of the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. It was formed in 1970 and reorganised on 4 April 2022. The headquarters of the district is Ongole. It is located on the western shore of Bay of Bengal and is bounded by Bapatla district and Palnadu districts in the north, Nandyal district in the west, Kadapa and Nellore districts in the south. A part of north west region also borders with Nagarkurnool district of Telangana. It is the largest district in the state with an area of 14,322 km2 (5,530 sq mi) and had a population of 22,88,026 as per 2011 Census of India.
Markapuram is a town in Prakasam district of the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. It is a municipality and is the headquarters of Markapuram mandal in Markapuram revenue division. Markapuram is notable for the Chennakesava Swamy Temple, built by King Sri Krishnadevaraya. During Ratha Yatra there occurs a popular carnival; the town is also famous for Chenna Kesavaswamy on the day of Rathsapthami, which is attended by thousands of people coming from different parts of the state. It is the second-largest town in Prakasam district after Ongole and it is the main place within West Prakasam district to avail all facilities.

Giddaluru is a town in the Prakasam district of the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. It is the mandal headquarters of the Giddaluru mandal in Markapur revenue division. It was part of kurnool district till 1969 later it was merged into Prakasam district in 1970. Till 2008 it was under Nandyal parliament segment after delimitation it was moved to Ongole MP segment. Giddalur is also known as "3 zilla la muddu bidda " because during the Britishers rule it was in kadapa district later moved to kurnool then in 1970 merged in prakasam district. Giddalur is the only constituency in coastal districts which has Rayalseema culture,slang and traditions. Giddalur town has good transport connectivity to Nandyal, Markapur, Podili, Ongole, Kurnool, Kadapa.

National Highway 216 is a National Highway in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. The former highways of NH 214 and 214A were merged and renumbered as NH 216. It starts from NH 16 junction at Kattipudi and passes through Kakinada, Amalapuram, Digamarru (Palakollu), Narasapuram, Machilipatnam, Repalle, Cherukupalle, Bapatla, Chirala before it junctions NH 16 again at Ongole. Visakhapatnam–Kakinada Petro Chemical Corridor, is a proposed project along the highway.
Sidda Raghava Rao is an Indian politician who is an ex-Minister for Environment, Forests, Science and Technology in the Andhra Pradesh cabinet. He earlier worked as a Minister for Transport, Roads & Buildings. Born in Chimakurthy of Prakasam district to Sidda Venkata Subbamma and Sidda Venkateswarlu, Raghava Rao grew up in a large family of eight brothers. He completed his schooling at Chimakurthy and went to Bapatla to pursue intermediate. He later graduated in Commerce from Andhra University in 1977. Raghava Rao joined the YSR Congress Party in June, 2020 after losing the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections from Ongole on a TDP ticket.

The university was named after Tanguturi Prakasam, a political leader, social reformer and anti-colonial nationalist. He served as the chief minister of Madras Presidency and subsequently became the first chief minister of erstwhile Andhra State. He was known as "Andhra Kesari" which translates to "Lion of Andhra".
