Infrastructure Development Company Limited is a government owned specialised non-bank financial institution that finances renewable infrastructure projects in Bangladesh and is located in Dhaka, Bangladesh. [1] In 2016, it was awarded the United Nations Momentum for Change Award. [2]

History

Infrastructure Development Company Limited was established on 14 May 1997 by the Government of Bangladesh. [1] [3] It also finances organizations who distribute solar panels in Bangladesh. [4] The company was licensed by the Bangladesh Bank as a non-bank financial institution on 5 January 1998. Since its inception, it has played a major role in bridging the financing gap for developing medium to large-scale infrastructure and renewable energy projects in Bangladesh.

The company is managed by a nine-member independent Board of Directors comprising five senior government officials, three representatives from the private sector and a full-time executive director and chief executive officer. Secretary/Senior Secretary of Economic Relations Division under the Ministry of Finance is the ex-officio chairman of the company. It has a small and multi-skilled work force comprising financial and market analysts, lawyers, engineers, IT experts, accountants and environmental and social safeguard specialists.

Proshanta Kumar Halder, a banker and known as "Sultan of swindle", had according to media reports embezzled 30 billion taka from the institute and according to Bangladesh Bank 15.69 billion taka. The fraud was aided Amitav Adhikary, a cousin of Proshanta Kumar Halder and senior management at International Leasing and Financial Services Limited.

Aviva Finance Limited is a sharia complaint major non-bank financial institution in Bangladesh. It was formerly called Reliance Finance Limited. Mohammed Saiful Alam is the chairman of Aviva Finance Limited and also S. Alam Group. The former managing director of Reliance Finance Limited, Proshanta Kumar Halder, embezzled from Reliance and other financial institutions in Bangladesh through fraudulent loans. According to the Anti-Corruption Commission Proshanta Kumar Halder had stolen 102 billion taka. The Daily Star gave Proshanta Kumar Halder the name sultan of swindle.

First Finance Limited is a major non-bank financial institution in Bangladesh. Khan Mohammad Moinul Hasan is the chairman of the First Finance Limited.

Mohammad Salah Uddin is a Bangladeshi civil servant and Secretary of the Prime Minister's Office under Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. He is an independent director of British American Tobacco. He is a director of Saudi-Bangladesh Industrial and Agricultural Investment Company Limited. He is a director of Bangladesh Infrastructure Finance Fund Limited.

Sheikh Mohammad Salim Ullah is a Bangladesh civil servant and secretary of the Ministry of Finance. He is in-charge oof the Financial Institutions Division at the Ministry of Finance. He served under Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal.
