The economy of Bangladesh is a major developing mixed economy. As the second-largest economy in South Asia, Bangladesh's economy is the 35th largest in the world in nominal terms, and 25th largest by purchasing power parity. Chittagong, officially Chattogram, is the second-largest city in Bangladesh. Home to the Port of Chittagong, it is the busiest port in Bangladesh and the Bay of Bengal. The city is also known as business capital of Bangladesh. It is the administrative seat of an eponymous division and district. The city is located on the banks of the Karnaphuli River between the Chittagong Hill Tracts and the Bay of Bengal. The Greater Chittagong Area had a population of more than 8.2 million in 2022. In 2020, the city area had a population of more than 5.2 million. The city is home to many large local businesses and plays an important role in the Bangladeshi economy.
Bangladesh Export Import Company Limited, commonly known by its trade name BEXIMCO, is a Bangladeshi multinational conglomerate holding company, headquartered in Dhaka, Bangladesh. It was founded in the early 1970s.
The Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), located in Nikunja, Dhaka, is one of the two stock exchanges of Bangladesh, the other being the Chittagong Stock Exchange. In January 2023, DSE and Nasdaq announced their partnership with trading technology.
The Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange (DSE) is a stock exchange located on Ohio Street, west of Kivukoni, south east of Dar es Salaam, the commercial capital and largest city in Tanzania. It was incorporated in September 1996 and trading started in April 1998. It is a member of the African Stock Exchanges Association and the World Federation of Exchanges. The exchange is open five days a week, from Monday through Friday. The trading days are weekly from Monday to Friday, starting from 10.00 am to 14.00 pm.
The Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) is the regulator of the capital market of Bangladesh, comprising Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE). The commission is a statutory body and attached to the Ministry of Finance.

Shyampur Sugar Mills a Bangladesh sugar mill. It was established in 1967 by the Pakistani government. At that time East Pakistan had only 5 sugar mills. It is situated at Shyampur under Badarganj Upazila, 16 kilometers west of Rangpur City. Shyampur Sugar Mills falls under the Bangladesh Sugar and Food Industries Corporation. The mill has over 1,400 workers. The livelihood of the people of the region depends largely on this industry.
Dragon Group is a group of garment factories and other companies in Bangladesh. The group produces mainly for the international market and exports to more than 30 countries, especially the United States and Canada. Its subsidiary Dragon Sweater employs more than few thousand workers and in 2018 was the most traded stock on the Dhaka Stock Exchange.
Confidence Group of Companies Limited is a Bangladeshi company, involved in manufacturing mid-tech manufacturing engineering products. The conglomerate commenced its operation in 1991 with cement manufacture, and is involved with power generation and the manufacture of Spun Pre-stressed Concrete (SPC) poles. As of 2017, the conglomerate claims to consist of 8 operational business entities.
Bashundhara Group is a Bangladeshi conglomerate and one of the largest manufacturing companies in Bangladesh. It was incorporated in 1987 as a real estate company under the name East West Property Development Ltd (EWPD). After its first project turned out to be successful, the company grew quickly. It presently owns more than 50 major concerns throughout Bangladesh. The company's import-export turnover was $1.12 billion or BDT 111.38 billion in the 2022-23 fiscal year. In the 2018 fiscal year, the company's real estate holdings amounted to BDT 50,000 crores, or $4.6 billion.
Orion Group is one of the largest Bangladeshi industrial conglomerates. The industries under this conglomerate include Orion Pharma Ltd, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, infrastructure development, agribusiness, hospitality, textiles, aviation etc. Orion was established by Obaidul Karim, the chairman of the group, and Salman Obaidul Karim, his the managing director. It built the Mayor Hanif flyover in Dhaka. The tallest building in Bangladesh, City Centre Dhaka is built by this group. The company is also the sole franchisee of Krispy Kreme and Fish & Co. restaurants in Bangladesh.
Advanced Chemical Industries, more commonly marketed and known as ACI, is a Bangladeshi pharmaceuticals and conglomerate company founded in 1973. The firm is headquartered in the thana of Tejgaon I/A in Dhaka. ACI is one of the leading firms in the pharmaceuticals and chemical industry of Bangladesh.
The Economy of Chittagong is reflected in its gross state product of $116 billion in purchasing power parity (2022) terms ranking, second in size only behind Dhaka in Bangladesh. The Padma Oil Company Limited formerly known as Burmah Eastern Limited, is a subsidiary of Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC), a statutory organization of the government under the Ministry of Power, Energy, and Mineral Resources. It is registered with the joint-stock company as a public limited company under the Company Act 1913. The company's head office is located on Strand Road in Chittagong, officially known as Chattogram. It is one of three state owned oil distribution companies in Bangladesh with the others being Jamuna Oil Company and Meghna Petroleum Limited.
United Commercial Bank PLC (UCB) is a commercial bank in Bangladesh. It was established in 1983.
MJL Bangladesh PLC widely known as Mobil Bangladesh, formerly known as Mobil Jamuna Lubricants Limited, is a company that is jointly owned by Jamuna Oil Company, a subsidiary of government-owned Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation and EC Securities Limited, a subsidiary of East Coast Group.
