History

Concord Group was founded in 1973. [3] In 2002, Concord Group built a multimillion-dollar amusement park in Savar called Fantasy Kingdom. [6] In 2004, the Government of Bangladesh leased the historic Foy's Lake to Concord Group for 50 years to develop it into a resort and amusement park named Foy's Lake Concord. [7] [8] In 2007, Concord Group began construction work on a shopping Complex called Police Plaza, which was built in partnership with the Bangladesh Police Welfare Trust of the Bangladesh Police. [9] The building is located in Gulshan Thana and was completed in 2015. [10]

They set up the first satellite township in Bangladesh [11] and constructed the country’s first revolving tower in Chittagong. [12] They constructed 7 world-class theme parks in Bangladesh including Fantasy Kingdom & Foy's Lake Complex. [13] They introduced new technology involving reinforced concrete block masonry to serve as a better structural system for earthquake-prone zones. [11]

Controversy

The Department of Environment fined Concord Group 1.4 million taka for building 12-story and two 15-story buildings without their permission. [14]

On 17 September 2015, the Bangladesh High Court requested that Concord hand over an 18-story building built on land occupied by the Salimullah Orphanage; said court determined that the contract used to acquire the land was illegal. [15]

Awards

Concord Group won the 2010 BID International Quality Summit (IQS) Award in New York based on "Excellence, Innovation, Customer Satisfaction, Technology, Leadership Strategic Planning & Business Results". [16] They also received the Daily Star - DHL Bangladesh Business Award in the category: "Enterprise of the year 2000' in recognition of "Outstanding Leadership Quality and as Role model in Corporate Business in Bangladesh.” [17] In 2022, they won a National Environment Medal for their contributions to environment protection and pollution control in Bangladesh. The group's main business is real estate & construction. This organization has developed over 1,200 residential, Commercial property projects by 2023, including, private property, autonomous property, government projects and monuments. [20]

Jamuna Future Park is a shopping mall in Dhaka, Bangladesh. It was inaugurated on 6 September 2013. Construction began in 2002, by Jamuna Builders Ltd., a subsidiary of the Jamuna Group and the exterior was completed in 2008. It has a total floor area of 4,100,000 square feet (380,000 m2). It is the biggest shopping mall in South Asia, and the 24th biggest mall in the world.

Bashundhara Group is a Bangladeshi conglomerate and one of the largest manufacturing companies in Bangladesh. It was incorporated in 1987 as a real estate company under the name East West Property Development Ltd (EWPD). After its first project turned out to be successful, the company grew quickly. It presently owns more than 50 major concerns located throughout Bangladesh. The company's import-export turnover was $1.12 billion or BDT 111.38 billion in the 2022-23 fiscal year. In the 2018 fiscal year, the company's real estate holdings amounted to BDT 50,000 crores, or $4.6 billion.

Bangladesh is one of the most vulnerable nations in the world due to climate change. As the ninth most populous country and twelfth most densely populated countries in the world, its rising population and limited land space have put tremendous strains on the urban ecosystem. The capital of Dhaka itself underwent severe transformations in recent years to catch up the increased rate of urbanisation. This change was paralleled by a boom in the real estate, construction and housing industry. According to United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), Dhaka is one of the most polluted cities in the world.

The World Trade Center Chittagong, is an unfinished 90.70 meters, 21-floor complex located in Agrabad Commercial Area, Chittagong, Bangladesh. The building was opened in 2016, but the building has been partially constructed with the most of its floors remaining incomplete. The top floors of the building were never completed, with only the concrete frame visible.

Bangladesh Shilpa Bank Bhaban is a tall high-rise located in Dhaka, Bangladesh. It is located in Motijheel, the central business district of the metropolis. It rises up to a height of 71 metres (233 ft) and comprises a total of 22 floors. It houses the headquarters of Bangladesh Shilpa Bank, the premier financial institution of the country. Bangladesh Shilpa Bank Bhaban is currently the 13th tallest building in Dhaka which is constructed by Concord Engineers and Construction Limited, a concern of Concord Group.

The Rana Plaza collapse was a structural failure that occurred on 24 April 2013 in the Savar Upazila of Dhaka District, Bangladesh, where an eight-story commercial building called Rana Plaza collapsed. The search for the dead ended on 13 May 2013 with a death toll of 1,134. Approximately 2,500 injured people were rescued from the building. It is considered the deadliest accidental structural failure in modern human history, as well as the deadliest garment-factory disaster in history and the deadliest industrial accident in the history of Bangladesh.

It was established in 19 February 2004 by Concord Entertainment Company Limited, a leading entertainment and real estate company in Bangladesh. The complex covers nearly 320 acres of land and consists of three main components: a dry theme park, a water park, and a resort. The theme park complex is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Chittagong and one of the best holiday destinations in Bangladesh.

Jolshiri Abashon is an under construction residential area developed by Jolshiri Abashon corporation, a sister corporation of the Army Officers Housing Scheme, in Rupganj Upazila, Narayanganj District. It is being built for Bangladesh Army officers with residential plot purchase available for cilvilians at sectors 1 and 2. It was referred to by the name Army Housing Scheme in the past. Spread over 2133.349 acres and 17 sectors, the area will have various facilities including educational institutes, hospitals, mosques, parks, lakes, lakeside walkway and cycle track, amusement park, stadium, golf course, bus stand, taxi stand, filling stations, fire service, bridges, apartments, and commercial spaces. There will be provision for underground utility facilities. 48% of total area will be open space and 28.73% will be roads. Estimated project cost is $2 billion.
