Inspector General of Prisons, shortened to IG of Prisons or IG Prisons, is the highest rank in the provincial prison and probation service, usually the provincial commanding and controlling officer and chief/head of all district, central, special and women jails/prisons, borstal institutions, and remand homes in a province in Bangladesh, India or Pakistan. [1]

Central Prison Karachi

Central Prison Karachi is a prison in the city of Karachi in Sindh, Pakistan. It houses more than 4800 prisoners including convicted terrorists that include militants who attempted to assassinate President of Pakistan Pervez Musharraf. CPK, was established in the year 1899 for 591 prisoners while population of a newly growing city of Karachi was a little more than around hundred thousand people. Now that the city boasts of having around 20 million inhabitants, the same CPK along with District Jail Malir is accommodating more than half of the entire Prison Population in the province of Sindh.. The city requires at least one district jail in its every administrative district so that jails may be easily managed and inmates may get benefit from true correctional programs and initiatives.

The Special Security and Protection Battalion (SPBN) is a specialized unit of the Bangladesh Police. Prisons in Pakistan and their administration, is a Provincial competency under the Constitution of Pakistan. Around 64.5% of prisoners are awaiting trial prisoners. 98.6% of prisoners are male, 1.7% are juveniles and 1.2% of those held are foreign citizens. As of 2018 Pakistan had an official occupancy capacity for 56,499 prisoners but held 80,145 prisoners.

Dhaka Central Jail, Keraniganj is situated in Rajendrapur, Tegharia union, Keraniganj, Bangladesh and was inaugurated on 10 April 2016.

Mushtaq Ahmed (writer)

Mushtaq Ahmed, popularly known as Kumir Bhai, was a Bangladeshi dissident writer, and entrepreneur. His pen name was Michael Kumir Thakur. He founded the first ever commercial Crocodile breeding farm in Bangladesh. His book Kumir Chashir Diary was published in 2018. He was working on another book. He was accused with 10 others for sharing cartoons in social media posts criticizing the Bangladeshi government's corrupt and mismanaged response to covid-19 pandemic and was detained in pre-trial for almost a year. On 25 February 2021 he died in jail, after being denied bail 6 times.

Ahmed Kabir Kishore is a well known Bangladeshi cartoonist. He was accused of drawing cartoons and held in pre-trial detention in Bangladesh under the country's infamous Digital Security Act for 10 months since May 2, 2020. Cartoonists Rights Network International, Cartooning for Peace, various international organizations and common people of Bangladesh raised concerns over the detention and custodial torture on Kishore.
