International Congress of Genetics

The International Congress of Genetics (ICG) is a five yearly conference for geneticists. The first ICG was held in 1898. Since 1973 It has been organized by the International Genetics Federation (IGF). The aim of the congress is to reflect on progress made in genetics, to celebrate the best of contemporary research and to anticipate future developments in the discipline. It is one of the most important genetics meetings, presenting all subfields of the discipline. These subfields cover all present-day experiments using the powerful genomic technologies. Also, the benefits and wider implications of genetic research to societies at large are explored.

The Congress has been held in many major cities around the world, such as London, New York City, Paris, Ithaca, Edinburgh, Stockholm, Bellagio, Montreal, The Hague, Tokyo, Berkeley, Moscow, New Delhi, Toronto, Birmingham, Beijing, Melbourne, Berlin and Singapore.

The last International Congress of Genetics took place in Singapore in 2013. In 2018, the 22nd International Congress of Genetics will be held in Foz de Iguaçu, Brazil. [1]

The International Genetics Federation (IGF) is an association of national genetics societies interested in promoting the advancement of the science of genetics. The IGF is governed by a representative council that meets every five years at the International Congress of Genetics (ICG) to choose the venue of the next Congress, to elect IGF officers and members of the Executive Board, and to set dues, make or affirm policy decisions, and amend the IGF Constitution as needed.

The International Union for Pure and Applied Biophysics (IUPAB) is an international non-governmental organization whose mission is to assist in the worldwide development of biophysics, to foster international cooperation in biophysics, and to help in the application of biophysics toward solving problems of concern to all humanity. It was established in 1961 as the International Organisation for Pure and Applied Biophysics but then renamed as the International Union in 1966, when it became a member of ICSU, which itself was renamed in 2018 as ISC, the International Council for Science. Affiliated to it are the national adhering bodies of 61 countries, as well as the European Biophysical Societies' Association (EBSA), the Asian Biophysics Association and the Biophysical Society.

The International Congress of Entomology (ICE) is the largest in-person conference for the science of entomology. It generally meets every 4 years, and has been held in locations around the world since 1910. Initially conferences were organized by entomologists from each host country. Since 1988 the conference has been organized by the Council for International Congresses of Entomology, with development of the scientific programs primarily by entomologists from the host country.
