International Space Olympiad (ISO) is an international level Quiz competition on space science and technology [1] for students of Grades 5-12 and is organized by Edu Mithra Intellectual services Pvt. Ltd., [2] [3] every year with a mission to attract and encourage talents in the fields of space science and technology and enhance the aptitude of children in space science.
The International Space Olympiad starts with the school level competitions is followed by and the Zonal, National and the International Levels. On every level students compete to qualify for the next level and based on merits of performance, students are shortlisted to participate in the next level. Each level consists of written and audio visual rounds of quiz and the champions are selected from the international level of ISO.
The winners of International Space Olympiad are awarded prizes including Newtonian reflector telescopes and Certificates.
The first ISO was conducted in 2015. The final international level was organized at Kerala State Science and Technology Museum and Priyadarshini Planetarium, [4] Trivandrum, Kerala, India on 14 June 2015. Biyon Sony Joseph of Loyola School, Kerala, Varna Jose of St Mary’s Convent School, Kerala, Aaron John Sabu of St Thomas Central School, Kerala were awarded the first, second and third prizes respectively. The event constituted of the audio visual and written rounds of quiz in the morning session handled by Prof. Anand Narayan, [5] Professor of Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology, Trivandrum, Kerala, India. The afternoon session was an interactive and seminar session by Padma Shri M. Chandradathan, [6] the former Director of Vikram Sarabhai Space Center, Trivandrum, Kerala, India. He also awarded the prize to the winners and certificate of participation to all the participants.
The International Level Competitions of International Space Olympiad 2016 were held at Renewal Center Kochi. [7] Selected students of classes 5-12 from various countries participated in the competition to win the title and the competition was designed to examine their knowledge in space science, history of space explorations and space technology. Sai S Kalyan from Chinmaya Vidyalaya, Arpit Kottur from Podar International School Pune and Riya Titus from Mar Gregarious Memorial Residential Public School won the title prizes in the competition which was held in three categories namely Juniors, Seniors and Super seniors. Eminent personalities from the field of space science handled the quizzes and the related workshop sessions. The event was scheduled as a three day camp and consisted of many innovative and informative sessions on space science and astrophysics.
In the valedictory function held Fr. Davis Chiramel, founder and director of Kidney Federation of India interacted with the children and gave away the prizes. The winners received Newtonian Reflector Telescopes as title prizes.

The College of Engineering, Trivandrum, commonly shortened to CET, is an engineering college in the Indian state of Kerala, situated in Thiruvananthapuram. His tenure saw commencement of Indian Human Spaceflight Programme and launch of extraterrestrial exploration mission Chandrayaan-I.
Ottaplakkal Neelakandan Velu Kurup was a Malayalam poet and lyricist from Kerala, India, who won the Jnanpith Award, the highest literary award in India for the year 2007. He received the awards Padma Shri in 1998 and Padma Vibhushan in 2011, the fourth and second highest civilian honours from the Government of India. In 2007 he was awarded an Honorary Doctorate by University of Kerala, Trivandrum. O. N. V. was known for his leftist leaning. He was a leader of All India Students Federation (AISF). He died on 13 February 2016 at KIMS hospital in Thiruvananthapuram due to age-related illnesses, aged 84.
The Government Medical College, Thiruvananthapuram, also known as Trivandrum Medical College, is a public medical college in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, India. Founded in 1951, it was inaugurated by Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru and is Kerala's first ever Medical College.
Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST) is a government-aided institute and deemed university for the study and research of space science, located in Thiruvananthapuram, India. IIST was set up in 2007 by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) under the Department of Space, Government of India.

Arthur C. Clarke Institute for Modern Technologies (ACCIMT) is an institute for research and technology transfer in Sri Lanka. It is named after its founder patron, Sir Arthur C. Clarke, the famous British science fiction author, inventor and futurist. The institute is mainly focused on conducting research in the fields of electronics, micro-electronics, telecommunications, information technology, space technologies and robotics, and providing training for relevant industry professionals. National Science Talent Contest or NSTC is an extension of the National Physics Talent Contest launched by PIEAS in 1995 on the directive of the then President of Pakistan. The purpose of the NSTC is to inspire the youth of the Nation to opt for careers in science, and mathematics and to prepare young students for participation in International Science Olympiads in Physics, Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics.
Govindan Vijayaraghavan is a cardiologist from India, credited with establishing the first 2D Echocardiography laboratory in India. He is the vice-chairman & Founder Director of the Kimshealthcare Trivandrum and the President of the Society for Continuing Medical Education and Research, Trivandrum, Kerala. He was honoured by Government of India in 2009 for his services in the field of medical sciences by awarding him Padmashri.
J. Hareendran Nair is an Indian Ayurveda practitioner and entrepreneur from Kerala. He is the founder of Pankajakasthuri Herbals, This is a business group that contributed to the promotion and popularising of Ayurveda and ayurvedic products across the country. In 2012, the Government of India, honored him with Padma Shri for his services to the cause of Ayurveda.
M. C. Dathan is an Indian space scientist and former director of the Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC). The Government of India honoured him, in 2014, by awarding him the Padma Shri, the fourth highest civilian award, for his contributions to the fields of science and technology. In May 2016, the Government of Kerala appointed MC Dathan as the scientific advisor to chief minister.
The National Space Olympiad (NSO) is a science competition conducted in India. The competition is conducted at the Department of Physics, Cochin University of science and Technology. Students from class eight to class ten can participate in the competition. The National Space Olympiad is conducted in remembrance of Indian astronaut Kalpana Chawla.
Noorul Islam Centre for Higher Education (NICHE), formerly Noorul Islam College of Engineering, is a private co-educational Institution in Kumarakovil, Thuckalay, Kanyakumari District, Tamil Nadu, India. The institution was founded in 1989 by A.P. Majeed Khan and it was declared as a Deemed to be University by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Govt. of India at 8 December 2008. It is now run by Noorul Islam Centre for Higher Education (NICHE) Society.
