Ira Nagrath ( née Moitra; died 22 January 2005), known as Ira Roshan, was an Indian singer and composer, wife of music director Roshan, mother of actor and film director Rakesh Roshan and music director Rajesh Roshan, and paternal grandmother of actors Hrithik Roshan and Pashmina Roshan.

Career

As a young woman belonging to a Bengali family, Ira Moitra was a singer heard on All India Radio in Delhi. [1] [2] [3] She had musical (off-screen) credits on several films, including Anokhi Raat (1968), [4] Shakka (1981), Aap Mujhe Achche Lagne Lage (2002), and Prateeksha (2006). She sang a duet with Lata Mangeshkar for the film Anokha Pyar (1948), [5] and completed recording a film score left unfinished when her composer husband died suddenly. [6]

Personal life

In 1948, Ira Moitra married Punjabi music director Roshan Lal Nagrath as his second wife, and moved to Bombay. [7] [8] Their sons are Rakesh Roshan (born 1949) and Rajesh Roshan (born 1955). [9] [10] She was widowed when Roshan died suddenly from a heart attack in 1967; she died in 2005. Actor Hrithik Roshan is her grandson. Her granddaughter, Sunaina Roshan, published a family history titled To Dad With Love (2014), with many pictures and anecdotes about Moitra and Roshan's household. [11] In 2008, the speech and hearing wing of Nanavati Hospital in Mumbai was named for Ira Roshan. [12] [13]

Principal photography of the film began on 30 March 2016.

Koi... Mil Gaya is the soundtrack to the 2003 film of the same name directed by Rakesh Roshan and stars Hrithik Roshan and Preity Zinta in the lead roles. The film's score and soundtrack are composed by Rakesh's brother Rajesh Roshan and featured eight tracks written by Ibrahim Ashk, Nasir Faraaz and Dev Kohli. Udit Narayan, K. S. Chithra, Alka Yagnik, Tarsame Singh Saini, Shaan, Kavita Krishnamurti, Baby Sneha, Adnan Sami, and Preeti Uttam Singh performed the vocals for the songs. The soundtrack was released under the Saregama label on 28 May 2003.

Kaho Naa... Pyaar Hai is the soundtrack album to the 2000 film of the same name directed by Rakesh Roshan, starring his son Hrithik Roshan in his acting debut, alongside Ameesha Patel. The soundtrack featured nine songs composed by his brother Rajesh Roshan with lyrics written by Ibrahim Ashk, Saawan Kumar Tak and Vijay Akela. The album was released under the Saregama label on 1 December 1999. The soundtrack was commercially successful and received numerous accolades, including Rajesh's win for Best Music Director in various ceremonies.
