The Irish Cricket Awards (also known as Cricket Ireland Awards) are a set of annual cricket awards given by Cricket Ireland. The awards recognise and honour the best of Irish coaches, match officials, volunteers, clubs and players at all levels of the game over the previous calendar year. [1]

History

The Cricket Writers of Ireland Association was formed in 2008, and started Cricket Writers of Ireland Awards in the same year. Later, it got dissolved except Irish Cricket Hall of Fame which subsequently became part of Irish Cricket Awards. It was launched by Cricket Ireland in 2012, with RSA Insurance Group Limited as its title sponsor. [2] [3] [4]

Paul Stirling won the first ever Men's International Player of the Year Award in 2012, and went on to win it four more times in 2017, 2020, 2021, 2022 which is the most by any player. Apart from Stirling, only Ed Joyce (2013, 2015, 2016) has won the award more than once. In the same category in women's cricket, Clare Shillington won the first ever Women's International Player of the Year. And, Gaby Lewis (2017, 2022) being the only player to have won it more than once.

The Players of the Decade award was introduced in 2021. Paul Stirling and Kim Garth were announced as the Men's and Women's Player of the decade respectively. [5] [6]

Ireland qualified for the 2009 ICC World Twenty20, the 2011 Cricket World Cup and 2010 ICC World Twenty20. In the 2011 World Cup, they beat England in the group matches.

Paul Robert Stirling is an Irish cricketer. Stirling is the opening batsman for the Ireland cricket team and an occasional right-arm, off-break bowler. He is one of the top 10 run scorers in T20 internationals. He was one of the eleven cricketers to play in Ireland's first ever Test match, against Pakistan, in May 2018. He was appointed as the vice-captain of the Ireland team in June 2020. He subsequently served as interim captain of Ireland in the T20I and ODI format following the resignation of Andrew Balbirnie, before being appointed as permanent limited-overs captain in October 2023.

George Henry Dockrell is an Irish cricketer, who plays international cricket for Ireland, having learned his cricket at Leinster Cricket Club, Dublin. Known as an all-rounder, Dockrell is a right-handed batsman and slow left-arm orthodox bowler. He was a member of the class of 2010 in Gonzaga College, Dublin. In December 2018, he was one of nineteen players to be awarded a central contract by Cricket Ireland for the 2019 season. In January 2020, he was one of nineteen players to be awarded a central contract by Cricket Ireland, the first year in which all contracts were awarded on a full-time basis.

Barry John McCarthy is an Irish cricketer. He made his first-class debut in 2015, and plays for the Ireland cricket team, and previously the English side Durham. Primarily a right-arm medium pace bowler, he also bats right handed.

Gaby Hollis Lewis is an Irish international cricketer who made her senior debut for the Irish national team in July 2014, aged only 13. She made her Twenty20 International (T20I) debut later in the year, becoming the youngest to play at that level. The International Cricket Council (ICC) named Lewis as one of the five breakout stars in women's cricket in 2018. She currently captains the Women's Super Series team Scorchers. In June 2022, at the age of 21, Lewis became the youngest player to captain the Ireland Women's team in international cricket.

The Shapoorji Pallonji National Academy or National Cricket Academy is a cricket academy and training centre based at the Malahide Cricket Club Ground in Malahide, Dublin, Ireland. The centre was sponsored by the Shapoorji Pallonji Group.

James Alexander McCollum is an Irish cricketer. He made his international debut for the Ireland cricket team in February 2019. In January 2020, he was one of nineteen players to be awarded a central contract from Cricket Ireland, the first year in which all contracts were awarded on a full-time basis.

Harry Tom Tector is an Irish professional cricketer. He was part of Ireland's squad for the 2016 Under-19 Cricket World Cup. He made his full international debut for the Ireland cricket team in September 2019. In January 2020, he was one of nineteen players to be awarded a central contract from Cricket Ireland, the first year in which all contracts were awarded on a full-time basis.

Jack Bill Tector is an Irish cricketer. He made his Twenty20 cricket debut for Munster Reds in the 2017 Inter-Provincial Trophy on 26 May 2017. Prior to his Twenty20 debut, he was the captain of Ireland's squad for the 2016 Under-19 Cricket World Cup.

Shane Charles Getkate is a South African-born Irish cricketer. Getkate was born with Wolff–Parkinson–White syndrome, which caused him to collapse on field during an under-19 game in June 2011. In January 2020, he was one of nineteen players to be awarded a central contract from Cricket Ireland, the first year in which all contracts were awarded on a full-time basis.

Jack Joshua Carson is a professional cricketer. He made his first-class debut on 1 August 2020, for Sussex in the 2020 Bob Willis Trophy. He was Sussex's leading wicket-taker in the competition, and also the 2021 County Championship. Carson is eligible to play international cricket for either England or Ireland.

The Ireland women's cricket team played the Scotland women's cricket team in May 2021. The tour consisted of four Women's Twenty20 International (WT20I) matches. The teams last played international cricket during the 2019 ICC Women's World Twenty20 Qualifier in August and September 2019. The matches all took place at Stormont in Belfast, and was the first time since 1997 that women's international cricket was played at the venue.

The Ireland women's cricket team played four Women's One Day Internationals (WODIs) against the Zimbabwe women's cricket team in October 2021. The matches were used by both teams for their preparation for the 2021 Women's Cricket World Cup Qualifier tournament, also in Zimbabwe. They were the first WODI matches to be played by Ireland since June 2018, when they hosted New Zealand, and the first ever WODI matches to be played by Zimbabwe since they were granted WODI status by the International Cricket Council (ICC) in April 2021.

Aniruddha Chore is an Indian cricketer who plays as a wicket-keeper. After playing for Vidarbha from 2011/12 to 2014/15 in India, Chore went on to play for Northern Knights for the 2022 season in Ireland.

The Ireland women's cricket team toured the Netherlands to play against the Netherlands women's cricket team in August 2022. The series consisted of three Women's One Day Internationals (WODIs), with two matches played at the VRA Ground in Amstelveen and one match at Sportpark Westvliet in The Hague. These were the first WODI matches played by the Netherlands Women since 2011, after the International Cricket Council granted them ODI status in May 2022.

The Sri Lanka women's cricket team toured Ireland in August 2024 to play the Ireland women's cricket team. The tour consists of two Twenty20 International (T20I) and three One Day International (ODI) matches. The ODI series formed part of the 2022–2025 ICC Women's Championship. This is Sri Lanka's first bilateral tour of Ireland. In April 2024, the Cricket Ireland (CI) announced the fixtures for the tour, as a part of the 2024 home international season.

The Ireland cricket team is one of the full members of the International Cricket Council (ICC), it represents all of Ireland. The team is administered by Cricket Ireland. They became associate members in 1993, and were granted full member status in 2017. They qualified for their first T20 World Cup in 2009, after winning the 2008 qualifier, they have qualified for every edition of the tournament since then. In eight editions that they have played, they have a win–loss record of 7–18 from 230 matches.
