The IronGodz was a professional wrestling tag team, consisting of Jax Dane and Rob Conway, who were aligned with the National Wrestling Alliance (NWA) where they are former one-time NWA World Tag Team Champions.

History

National Wrestling Alliance (2013–2015)

On January 19, 2013, Dane and Conway made their debut together for the National Wrestling Alliance teaming with Chris Marval defeating Alex Reigns, Ricky Starks and Vince Vile at the NWA Branded Out Wrestling New Years Revolution event. [2] On February 14, 2014, The IronGodz (Jax Dane and Rob Conway) successfully defended the NWA World Tag Team Championships against The Lords of KAos (Damien Wayne and Lance Erikson) for NWA Southern All-Star Wrestling. [3] On March 29, 2014, The IronGodz again successfully defended the NWA World Tag Team Championships under the NWA Smoky Mountain promotion defeating The Illuminati (Chase Owens and Chris Richards) and The Lords Of Kaos in a three-way tag team match. [4] On June 2, 2014, Conway defeated Satoshi Kojima in Las Vegas to regain the NWA World Heavyweight Championship. [5]

New Japan Pro-Wrestling (2013–2014)

On November 9, 2013, Dane and Conway made their New Japan Pro-Wrestling debuts as a team at Power Struggle, defeating K.E.S. (Davey Boy Smith, Jr. and Lance Archer) and Tencozy (Hiroyoshi Tenzan and Satoshi Kojima) in the first fall of a two-fall three-way match to win the NWA World Tag Team Championship. [6] [7] From November 23 to December 7, Dane and Conway now known as The IronGodz took part in New Japan's 2013 World Tag League, where they finished with a record of ten wins and three losses, failing to advance to the semifinals. [8] [9] On January 5, 2014, The IronGodz (Jax Dane and Rob Conway) successfully defended the NWA World Tag Team Championships against Tencozy. [10] The IronGodz returned to New Japan on April 6 at Invasion Attack 2014, where they lost the NWA World Tag Team Championship to Tencozy. [11] [12] The following week, The IronGodz failed in their attempt to regain the NWA World Tag Team Championships from Tencozy on April 13. [13] [14] The IronGodz returned to New Japan in November to take part in the 2014 World Tag League. [15] The team finished second to last in their block with a record of three wins and four losses. [16]

Satoshi Kojima is a Japanese professional wrestler signed to New Japan Pro-Wrestling, but makes appearances for Pro Wrestling Noah. Considered to be one of the greatest Japanese professional wrestlers of the 21st century and of all-time, he was the first wrestler to hold NJPW's IWGP Heavyweight Championship and All Japan Pro Wrestling's Triple Crown Championship simultaneously, the fourth to win the three major heavyweight championships in Japan with the Triple Crown Heavyweight, IWGP Heavyweight, and Noah's GHC Heavyweight Championship, and one of three wrestlers to hold the IWGP Heavyweight Championship, Triple Crown Championship, and NWA World Heavyweight Championship, and is an overall seven-time world champion in major professional wrestling promotions. Since 2022, he also wrestles for Pro Wrestling Noah.

Hiroyoshi Yamamoto is a Japanese professional wrestler who currently works for New Japan Pro-Wrestling, and is better known by his ring name Hiroyoshi Tenzan. With Satoshi Kojima, in 2008, they won the World's Strongest Tag Determination League in All Japan Pro Wrestling and the G1 Tag League in NJPW, becoming the only tag team which has done both. He is a four-time IWGP Heavyweight Champion and a record twelve-time IWGP Tag Team Champion. He is also a former National Wrestling Alliance (NWA) World Heavyweight Champion.

Suzuki-gun was a villainous professional wrestling stable primarily appearing in the New Japan Pro-Wrestling (NJPW) promotion, and making occasional appearances in All Elite Wrestling (AEW). The group was founded in December 2010 by IWGP Heavyweight Champion Satoshi Kojima as Kojima-gun, but the members of the stable turned on Kojima and appointed Minoru Suzuki as their new leader in May 2011. Suzuki-gun added several new members, such as Davey Boy Smith Jr. and Lance Archer, known collectively as the Killer Elite Squad (K.E.S.), who are three-time IWGP Tag Team Champions and two-time NWA World Tag Team Champions as part of the stable. Other accomplishments attained by the stable include Suzuki and Archer winning the 2011 G1 Tag League and founding members Taichi and Taka Michinoku becoming one-time IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Champions. As the leader of Suzuki-gun, Suzuki became one of NJPW's top wrestlers and has challenged for the IWGP Heavyweight Championship on multiple occasions.

Killer Elite Squad, often abbreviated to K.E.S., was the professional wrestling tag team of Davey Boy Smith Jr. and Lance Archer. The team made its debut in the New Japan Pro-Wrestling (NJPW) promotion in September 2012 and have since worked together also in North America, most notably for the National Wrestling Alliance (NWA). In Japan, they have worked as part of the larger Suzuki-gun stable ever since being put together by NJPW.

Back to the Yokohama Arena was a professional wrestling pay-per-view (PPV) event promoted by New Japan Pro-Wrestling (NJPW). The event took take place on May 25, 2014, at the Yokohama Arena in Yokohama, Kanagawa and marked NJPW's first event at the arena in eleven years. The event, considered one of NJPW's biggest of the year, following Wrestle Kingdom 8 in Tokyo Dome and the finals of the G1 Climax, featured four championship matches and was headlined by a match for the promotion's top title, the IWGP Heavyweight Championship. The event aired domestically as a regular PPV and internationally as an internet PPV. While the show was praised for its match quality, it was considered a disappointment due to poor attendance numbers. NJPW did not return to the Yokohama Arena until 8 years later, on the third night of Wrestle Kingdom 16 in 2022.

It was the 23rd January 4 Tokyo Dome Show and the eighth held under the "Wrestle Kingdom" name. Like the previous year, the event aired worldwide on internet pay-per-view (iPPV). Wrestle Kingdom is traditionally NJPW's biggest event of the year and has been described as their equivalent to WWE's WrestleMania.
