Ishaq Olarewaju Oloyede CON FNAL (born 10 October 1954) is a Nigerian professor of Islamic Studies,and academic. [1] [2] He is a former Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin,Nigeria, [3] and the current registrar and chief executive of Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB). [4] [5]
He was born on 10 October 1954,in Abeokuta South local government area of Ogun State. [6] Oloyede had his Secondary Education from 1969–1973 at the Progressive Institute,Agege Lagos. He then learned Arabic and Islamic Studies between 1973–1976 at the Arabic Training Centre Agege,Lagos,(Markaz). He received a certificate in Arabic and Islamic Studies at the University of Ibadan in 1977 and a B.A. in Arabic at the University of Ilorin in 1981. In July 1982 he was appointed an Assistant Lecturer in the Department of Religions of the University. In 1991,he had his Doctorate degree in Islamic Studies also from the University of Ilorin. [7]
Oloyede earned several scholarships and prizes during his student days,notable among which were the Arab League prize for the best final year Certificate student in Arabic and Islamic Studies in 1977 at the University of Ibadan;Federal Government undergraduate merit award from 1979 to 1981;Department of Religions Award,University of Ilorin,1981 and Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences Award,Unilorin also in 1981. Oloyede is a member of the Board of the Association of Commonwealth Universities (2010 –2012);and also a member of many learned and professional societies;•Fellow of the Islamic Academy of Cambridge,United Kingdom. •Fellow,Academy of Entrepreneurship. •Member of Nigerian Association of Teachers of Arabic and Islamic Studies (NATAIS). •Member of Editorial Board,Centre for Islamic Legal Studies,ABU,Zaria,among several others. •Former National President of the Unilorin Alumni Association (1995 and 1998). Oloyede attained the rank of Professor in 1995. [10] He was elected Vice Chancellor of his alma mater University of Ilorin in 2007 for a term of five years,during which the university became highly-ranked among the best in Africa and the most sought-after university in Nigeria. [11] [12] [13]
Oloyede also served as the Chairman of the Association of Vice-Chancellors of Nigerian Universities and Committee of Vice-Chancellors between 2011–2012. At the international level,he has held several distinguished positions. Between 2009–2011,he was the president of the Association of African Universities (AAU). [14] [15] Other positions include:Deputy Chairman of the Governing Board of the International Association of Universities (IAU) [2008 –2011];and Secretary-General,Association of West African Universities (AWAU) [2013 –2017]. [16] In 2015,he was appointed the (2nd) Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the 3rd Governing Council of Fountain University,Nigeria. [17]
In 2005,he was appointed by President Olusegun Obasanjo as Co-Secretary of the National Political Reform Conference. [18] [19] In 2006,he was appointment as consultant by the National Universities Commission on Educational Reforms in Nigeria. Oloyede became the National Coordinator and Executive Secretary of the National Inter–Religious Council (NIREC) in 2007. [20] Since 2013,he has been the Secretary-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA). [21] [22]
In 2016,President Muhammadu Buhari appointed him as the Registrar of the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB), [23] [24] [25] an appointment,personally described "divine" [26] by him,that was greeted by applauds from several quarters of the Nigerian society. [27] [28] [29] Since assumption of office,Oloyede has been praised [30] [31] for transforming JAMB into a reference point in effective public service delivery, [32] transparency and accountability [33] [34] [35] [36] in Nigeria. The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) is a Nigerian entrance examination board for tertiary-level institutions. The board conducts Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination for prospective undergraduates into Nigerian universities. The board is also charged with the responsibility to administer similar examinations for applicants to Nigerian public and private monotechnics,polytechnics,and colleges of educations. All of these candidates must have obtained the West Africa Senior School Certificate (WASSCE) conducted yearly by the West African Examinations Council,WAEC,or its equivalent,National Examination Council (Nigeria),Senior School Certificate Examination,NECO SSCE.
University of Ilorin (UNILORIN),is a federal government-owned public research university in Ilorin,Kwara State,Nigeria. The university's main campus sits on an expansive area of land,about 15,000 hectares in the ancient city of Ilorin;making it the largest university in Nigeria and one of the largest in Africa by landmass. The university comprises 16 faculties and over 100 academic departments offering 103 programmes. It was established by a decree of the Federal Military Government of Nigeria in August,1975. The University of Ilorin has the highest enrollment of foreign students in Nigeria. The establishment aimed to implement one of the educational directives of the Third National Development Plan,which was aimed at providing more opportunities for Nigerians aspiring to acquire university education and to generate high-level manpower,which is vital for the rapidly expanding economy. Compared to other higher institutions of learning in the country,the institution has one of the largest land areas,covering approximately 15,000 hectares of land. It is reported by Joint Admission Matriculation Board (JAMB) to be the most sought-after Nigerian university in 2021. And again in 2023,it was announced by the JAMB Head,Professor Ishaq Oloyede to be the sought-after University,for the 2023 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations (UTME),making it for the 10th consecutive year.
Sulyman Age Abdulkareem is a Nigerian academic and professor of chemical engineering who served as the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin from 2017 to 2022.

Olanrewaju Adigun Fagbohun SAN is a Nigerian lawyer,academic,author,investor,professor of environmental law and a Senior Advocate of Nigeria. He served as the 8th substantive vice-chancellor of Lagos State University between 11 January 2016 to 10 January 2021. His administration as LASU's vice chancellor witnessed tremendous gains in research,innovations and infrastructural development –which helped to propel the university from obscurity to the second best university in Nigeria according to the 2021 Times Higher Education ranking. He was appointed by the governor of Lagos State,Akinwunmi Ambode to succeed professor John Obafunwa,a Nigerian pathologist whose tenure ended on 31 October 2015. His appointment was lauded by the Lagos State University chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities. The association through the chapter chairman pledge their full support for good administration.
The Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) was established in 1973 at a national conference of Nigerian Muslim leaders in Kaduna under the auspices of Jama'atu Nasril Islam (JNI),the group for all the Islamic organisations in Northern Nigeria. In the South-West,prior to this conference,the first Muslim organisation to be formed after independence in 1960 was the United Muslim Council (UMC),but this was embraced by few Muslims in the Western Zone as it was championed by the ruling political party. According to Adegbite,the emergence and coming together of the Western Joint Muslim Organisation (WESJOMO),the Najah Joint Muslim Organisation (NAJOMO) and the Nigerian Muslim Council (NMC) of Lagos State enabled the region to work hand-in-hand with the JNI to create in 1973 the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs.
